If he is just sneezing, but does not have a runny nose or a temp. then it may not be a cold. Newborns often times do sneeze a lot. They have a more sensitive nose, so different things will make them sneeze. It is not a bad thing, just something that passes as they get older. I would compare it to baby acne, craddle cap, and stuff like that that is a common newborn thing. It all passes as they get older. It is not harmful to them.

As far as cold medicine there is really nothing you can give a 3 month old. About the only kind of meds. you can give at that age is tylenol. Most other meds. including ibprofine (sp) can't be given until 6 months of age. Something that can really helps newborns though with colds is having them lay at an angle when they sleep. So prop on side of the bed up (we would use books under the legs of the crib). Just enough so there are at a bit of an angle. Or you can also have them sleep more in a bouncy/vibrating seat or carseat. This helps the drainage drain down instead of settling in the sinses.

Here is always my rule of thumb with giving meds. If they are acting normal and have no temp. I don't give them anything. If they have a temp. and seem like they are in pain I give them tylenol or advil (the advil when they are 6 mos. or older). Colds are going to go through your house like crazy that first year. As they get closer to teething then if it is not a runny nose from a cold it will be a runny nose from teething.

vicks makes a baby rub with lavender in it, or try a cool mist humidifier (you can buy really cute ones at Target).... cold medications really aren't 100% safe for a 3 month old, so you need to consider how sick he really is as compared to the risk of giving the medication.

I did the same thing, running the shower and sink in bathroom so it gets steamy and just sit in there. My baby boy is 3 months old and already had 2 cold. There is also a Johnson and Johnson bath for babies with cold it has that vicks smell but no where near as strong and i used that at bed time and it helped him sleep and got his nose running (which is very good) and use that sucky thing to get the boogers out of his nose too :) hope that helps!
