I've just recently started using circle of moms, not really sure what its all about. I have an 8months old (11/12/08) named Kilik. He was born at 31 weeks 4days. He's going to be crawlig soon, We're not sure what if anything there is to do to help him. We get down there with him, put his favorite toys out, get the cats in his sight. So far it seems to peak his intrest but he just scoots to get where he's going. Is this the stage he's supposed to be at developmentally?

Hi Kirsten! Welcome to Circle of Mums

Its a place for mums to get together for a chat, make some friends and get/give support and advice. There are lots of different communities so you can search ones that might intrest you and you can join as many as you like. You can even start your own if you can't find what your looking for :)

I thought it may interest you to know what ages little ones start to do things:

little ones usually start to...

Sit without support - 6 to 8 months

Crawling /trying to crawl - 6 to 9 months

Pull themselves upright to stand - 6 to 10 months

Can hold an object and lift it to suck on - 5 to 8 months

This is just a guide but can give you an idea of the average baby. Don't forget though that all children are differnt and don't worry if your child does fall within these.

It sounds like you are doing the right thing to help him start crawling, what helped with my son is to put toys just out of his reach so that he had to move to get it. But my son shuffled on his bum or crawled on his belly for a long time before he decided to crawl. lol

hope it helps x x

Hi Kristen! Kids all begin things at different times theres really not a specific age he should be crawling. My first son didnt crawl until he was 9 months old. We also tried everything with him and nothing seemed to work. He was such a little chunk and was always wanting to eat when he was that little so he would try then give up. Then one day we were at my dad's and my dad's big lunch box was sitting beside his chair and Izaiah (my son) kept trying to get it. I moved it across the room and all of a sudden he just took off crawling to get it! Go figure its the times you will least expect it that your child will surprise you!

I guess it was just the new mother jitters or something like that. Thank you for taking time out of your busy day to share your story!

Hi Kirsten, Welcome to circle of mums. I'm a new member myself but came across your post and thought i'd share a little of my story. I have four children. 10yrs, 4yrs and twins 2yrs. Each of them are very different and all developed at different ages. My eldest was on par with most others her age, well i thought she was back then anyway. my second child was up and gone crawled for something like 3 weeks and was walking by 8 months talking very very well by 12 months and hasn't stopped there. She keeps me on my toes. The twins well my son was crawling by 6months but never started walking until right on 12 months. my daughter didn't crawl until 8 months and started walking at 12 months as for speach well one does a lot of copying us and numbers, abc. The other which is my son says whatever he wants when he wants but won't really copy what we ask him to say. I realized that even though as a parent we do what we need to do and encourage them to do the next baby steps, all children will go through the developmental stages at their own pace and in their own time. My advice would be just not to worry to much about whether your child should or shouldnt be doing this at this and that age. Just enjoy them. They grow up way too fast.

My son just turned 7 months and is just now starting to roll around. He tries to crawl, but can't get the cooridination. As long as he's moving around he's fine. Some babies never crawl, they go straight to standing and walking.

Thank you that does help alot. I keep getting sort of worried that hes going to be behind because he seems to take 2 steps forward and one step back sometimes. I figure that's natural with babies, expecally premmies though. We're working with him on the sitting up to. I just want to make sure i'm doing the right things as far as ways to help his developmental skills.

Thank you for replying to my post. Your information is very helpful and helps to ease my worrying. Again thank you!
