Hi, my name is Breanne and I am a stepmom to an energtic little boy named Liam. He's five years old and a great kid! He just loves to talk, talk, talk, lol! I'm just wanting to get to know some other mom's out there and just have friendly conversation about anything. Hope to talk to you soon!

Liam is the same way! It always seems like we are saying to him, "You have to start listening Liam?"Or "Why can't you just listen?" This might help you. It works sometimes and then other times he's just too full of energy and excited that it just doesn't work. When I'm explaining something to him after i'm done I ask him, "What was I just saying?" Because if i just say, "Do you understand?" He just nods his head, but then he goes and does the complete opposite of what I had just said to him and then he tells me that he was listening. So by asking him to repeat what I had said,(But I would say it in a way that he can understand) He understands. But then again it works SOME of the time, lol! I just think he's so full of energy or something.

Another reason I've found out why he doesn't listen is because he didn't want too. So we had to have a talk with him about how you still have to listen to others talk, even if you don't want too because what they are saying to you can be really IMPORTANT. The key word is important here, lol. Then we had to explain to him what important means so when we are talking and he hears that word then he knows he should be listening.

When we go places (ex. Wal-Mart) we try and tell him exactually what we are doing, what we are looking for or just what he should be doing when we are in the store. We do this so he feels like he's part of what's going on and not just someone who's just there and we do it for the listening part of it all. Sometimes if it's a certain place where we know he might not listen we set up some ground rules with him before we go there. Like we will leave if you start acting like this, stuff like that. I find it helps, but again sometimes, lol!

Like you have said about your daughter, she's full of energy, Liam's the same way. It's just the way they are i guess, but it does make it harder for us, lol! Let me know what you think and I'm wondering too if you have any ideas or if you feel comfrontable in sharing how you deal with the listening part.

Talk to ya soon, Breanne.

It does keep ya going that's for sure!! He talks about everything and anything. You can be in mid conversation with someone and he ends up adding a comment about it, lol! It can be frustrating sometimes, but it's just something that every child goes through. That's their way of learning. It's nice to meet you too! What's your daughter like, does she sometimes have problems with listening? Liam gets that way, but he's learning that if he wants to know stuff that is important then he has to be listening to the person that's talking to him. Thanks for getting back to me so fast!! Talk to ya soon!
