Mine was horrible! My water broke at 7am when I went pee...stopped peeing but water was still gushin out... went to hospital..8hrs later started on pitocin..then 8 hours of super hard contractions I got an epidural...babies heart rate started to drop shortly after that and ended up havein a c-section at 2:42am! FUN right! I encourage anyone how is going to have another baby to first watch the movie " the business of being born" found at your local library! Very informative on the vicious cycle that hospitals put you through! anyone seen it? well let me know how your labor went at a hospital that really jus wants you in an out asap!

I actually thought I had peed the bed! My water broke around 2am so off to the hospital we went. At 9am the gave me the gel but i never progressed. at 4pm they put me on the drip. I started having contractions in about 20 minutes. Unfortunately I never dialated a single centimeter and at 1:42am (Christmas Morning!!) my daughter was finally born. I am glad now I had the c-section, but I was really disappointed at the time. I really wanted a natural delivery and I felt like a failure. I cried a lot when my husband and I made the decision to have a c-section, but I was so tired that I needed to get it over with. I was told by my doctor afterwards that most mom's whose water breaks BEFORE contractions, usually never have a natural birth.

I was 39 wks 6 days when they decided to induce. And after 38 hrs of contractions and no progression, the Dr came to see me and said that they could try cervidil and pitosin one more time or go ahead an give me a csection. I said whats the chance I will have him naturally, and they said about 2% so I said go ahead and take him now! lol and they did. 2Pm Jan 5, 2010, they gave me the csection. And at 2:48PM, they pulled him out. :-) He was a healthy baby boy!!!

Well my labour was interesting... I was at the hopital getting a stress test and they told me that my son was in stress. I went the hospital (as directed) and they sent me home after three hours, they told me he was fine and that he had the strongest heartbeat on the board they watch. They next day, Sat. I started getting contractions, just small ones.. not to consistent and I was only 37weeks and 1cm dialated. That night I lost the mucus plug and the contractions were acting weird (I have epilepsy, so they were triggering them a little) So I called the doctor, they said go back to the hospital.

2nd time at the hospital - same thing... baby is fine strong heart beat blah blah blah... went home.. the next day I started bleeding.. so WENT bak AGAIN as told to. And once again they siad everything was fine.. but told me my OB wants to see me on Mon.. SO I go see the dr Mon and he says I am in Labor (still at 1cm) to go back to the hospital - he will make them keep me. So I go to the hospital at 5pm and they start to induce me (only at 1cm - but they were affecting my med issue) so at 7pm I got the epidural (manditory for my condition) and waited

At 12am the nurse comes in and siad the baby was stressing and that the heartrate lowered so they hooked me up to O2. At 4 am I was ready for delivery and after they made sure I still had the epidural meds going into me (I had to have it until he was after he was delivered) they noticed meconium. They didn't explain it entirely to me and went on with they delivery. Dr had to tell me when to push (because they couldn't turn off the epidural) and after about 5 min of pushing he was out, but not crying. All I heard was suction and the dr saying 'come on'. He finally coughed and it took four people to clean him up because he was born in meconium. We were not able to take pic either. 1 rn was giving him O@, one cleaning him another RN listening to his lungs and the other was trying to check his eyes (not to sure why). after about 5-10min they brought him to me and let me hold him for a couple of seconds and said he is going to NICU. My husband wasn't even allowed to hold or touch him. After 12 hours I was told he has a couple small (very small) heart conditions and that the meconium has not caused any serious problems (which is rare) at that time, but that he was hooked up to O2. They let us go see him... My husband still complains that he wasn't allowed to hold him

He only stayed in NICU for 4-5 days... I do not know what to do if it was 17 like Erin's... The 4-5 days he was in there killed me..

I had two completely different deliveries! With my first son I had been dialated to a 3 for 3 weeks before I had him. Then one night I started to get some contractions that weren't really much looking back now, but we went to the hospital thinking they'd send us home. Well they didn't lol. I walked around all night without much progress so they broke my water and then tthings got moving! I went from a 4 to an 8 in an hour but I was in a ton of pain and was so extremely tired! I was falling asleep between contractions and started talking about the dreams I was having and my mom told me she thought I was going crazy lol. But I decided to get an epidural which was really difficult sitting through in so much pain and then I fell asleep before they even finished checking me ha. Well that was probably a very bad move because after my epidural it took another 7 hours for me to fully dialate and deliver him. I pushed for an hour with my epidural almost completely worn off and had a healthy 7 poung baby. I was up and walking an hour later, and went home the next day. He was born a week before his due date.
My second son was much more dramatic! I was really sick had been up all night coughing, well the next day I went to work and with every cough thered be some fluid. I called my doctor and she said it was more than likely just pee. So I went about my day doing this and then around 6 iin the eveing my back started to hurt, around 9 I started getting contractions. But I just kept telling myself they were braxton hicks because I was only 34 and a half weeks pregnant! But then I went to the bathroom and noticed a pink tint so I knew I had to go to the hospital. My mom drove me the half hour to the hospital my contractions were every two minutes apart but they lasted an entire minute. We finally got to the hospital around 11:30 they skipped weighing me and just took me straight to the room where I got hooked up to everything. That's when we discovered the babys heartrate would drop to half of what it was supposed to be with every contraction, so I was hooked up to oxygen and couldn't move because I was in the best position for the baby. I had to grin and bear it for close to two hours when they finally came into give me my epidural. That was also when they decided to just perform an emergency c-section even though I was at an 8. So 25 miutes later my son was born. He was rushed off to NICU due to breathing problems. I got to see him 12 hours later. He was on a ventillator for a day but didn't have any major problems, he did have to stay in NICU for 17 days just to gain weight and regulate body temp. So I had two entirely different situations for my births!

ok i wasn't anywhere close to being as bad as you! i guess mine was more humorous!
i had 2 different due dates feb 9th and the 19th so they scheduled me to be induced the 15th at 8am. pitocin did it's job!...nubain did it's job!...epidural did not! they increased the dosage of my epi 4 times. they did have to put me on oxygen but from the time i was induced to pushing to him being born it was 11hrs 10mins so for a first time mom it's nothing to complain about.

lol but what made it humorous was aparently when on anesthetics i am ammusing! the anesthesiologist happened to be a customer on my mom's mail route (i wanted my mom with me). well, he had to read me all the precautions and side affects of the epidural and half way through i looked at him and said "that's nice, i don't give a f**k, give it to me now!" w/ a smile on my face! i really like the nubain but it wore off too quickly! the other thing that was funny was when they were first giving me my nubain shot the dr tells me "now this will make you feel like you're drunk.....but you're 20 so i'm sure you've never been drunk" my response: "you're obviously not from around here are you!?!" (i live in wi where it is legal for minors to drink in taverns so long as their parents are w/ them and consent to it)

At 9 days over due I had an appointment at the hospital to be induced. I was so scared but i knew my baby was going to come today no matter what. My husband and I arrived at the hospital at 7am (because that’s when they said we had to be there)and they put us straight into a waiting room and forgot about us! We sat there until nearly 9am. Finally a midwife came to get us and hooked me up to a monitor for 10 minutes to check the baby's heart beat and for contractions. The doctor came to break my waters soon after. I was already 3cm dilated. It was such a shock when it happened. I didn't realise it would be such a huge amount. The midwife told my husband and I to go get settled in the birthing suite then to go for a walk and see what happens. We decided to walk down to the food court in the hospital to get something to eat because we both had skipped breakfast. As we walked I notice that I felt heavier. My stomach felt low and there was a different sort of pressure down there. As I ate I started getting a weird feeling around my stomach. I didn't think much of it at the start but soon I had to stop eating when it happened. We finished breakfast and slowly walked back to birthing suite. By this time it was about 10am. I sat down in a chair in my room when it hit me. The most intense feeling I have ever felt. I yelled out. I shocked my husband so much he called for the midwife. She came in and said that everything was ok and she would be back in a minute with the inducing drugs. By the time she got back it was 1030am. She told me they were going to give me a drip to administer the drugs. By this stage I knew I was in labour and I didn't want or need the drugs. But she kept on insisting. I disagreed with her enough that she said she would do an examination then I would have to take the drugs. She found I was now 6cm dilated. So she said I was right that I didn't need the drugs. She announced that I was in labor at 11am. My husband then called my mum and told her I was in labor and she should hurry in. By the time my mum got to the hospital it was close to 12 and my contractions where coming fast. Every 2 minutes. The midwife gave me the gas but it didn't seem to help much. So I got a shot of pethidine. The next hour and a half was such a blur and before I knew it I had this incredible need to push. I pushed but not hard enough. I was too scared of the pressure I could feel. I had to talk myself into giving it my all. So I gave one big push and my baby started to crown. It felt like I was on fire. It burnt so much. The midwife told me to do lots of little pushes. I then felt my baby's head come out and a huge relief. She told me to keep pushing but my contractions stopped, baby half out. I never thought I would but I found myself wishing for another contraction. After what finally seemed forever I got one and with one push my daughter was born at 2:38pm. They put her on my chest and she was blue. I remember looking up at the midwife and saying she’s blue! She said it was very normal and by the time I looked back down she was already a healthy pink. She didn't cry. She just looked up at me. I was in my own little world. I didn't even notice the placenta come out. We are now expecting our second child and I am hoping next time it will go as quick as this one.

i started having contractions on saturday off and on all day. woke up around 4am on sunday with stronger contractions around 20 min apart. Finally had them coming every 3-5 min at 530pm and went in only to get sent home saying i was dilated 3-4 and contracting every 4-7 min. went out and walked and ate and came back after an hour and got sent home again dilated 4 and contracting every 3-5 min, barely able to walk out of the hospital. finally got admitted around 1am dilated 5 and got an epidural within an hour. they broke my water at around 8 am and found a little meconium. slowly dilated throughout the day and started pushing around 3pm. He decided to come down with a tilted head and facing sideways instead of face down. They spent some time trying to turn him and it was the most horrible pain ever! after pushing for 2 1/2 hours the doctor used the forceps and john roger was born at 549pm weighing in at 7lbs 8 oz and 19 in long. i figure if i can make it through all of that with an epidural that stopped working around 2pm then the next kid should be better! haha

My labor with my daughter was pretty easy. My water broke while I was going pee but it wasnt a gush, it was just a continous drip after I was done going to the bathroom. I called my mom into the bathroom and just said "I think my water broke" she told me it was nothing and that we would go get checked but she wanted to finsih the movie so we would come right back lol.
But it had broke, at 7pm. My contractions didnt strat till about midnight maybe one am. They were super strong as I did not get an epidural. The only thing I had was 2 shots of stadol (an IV pain killer) that didnt do much of anything during the contractions. But it made me PASS OUT between them and they were exactly 2 mins apart, I would wake up for the 90 sec contraction then pass back out for 2 mins and felt like I had been asleeo for hours each time lol. But after an hour of pushing I had my baby girl at 443am the next morning :-)

My water broke at 3PM on a Friday. Went home and packed a bag for Me, Baby, & Daddy. Got to the hospital at 5PM. I wanted to go all natural so I was in labor for 24 hours with NO epidural and NO pain medicine whatsoever. My contractions were really really strong (going up to 100 for atleast 3 or 4 hours and 75 for 3 or 4 hours before then) but I wouldn't progree past 3 cms and noone knew why. After 14 hours and no progress everyone involved agreed a C section was inevitable so I finally got an epidural which is extremely hard while having really bad contractions. Once we were in the OR and they began to deliver him, we figured out why I wouldn't progress ... My son had moved from the head down position to the transverse position (lying from left to right across the uterus like babies do for most of the pregnancy) !!! But after 16 hours I have to say that at 5:31 PM that Saturday, I had the greatest girl in the world ♥

With my first pregnancy with my b/g twins my water broke at 5:45 in the morning and I got to the hospital ( which was five minutes away). By the time I got checked in I was already 5 cm dialated my daughter was ready to come out, the problem was my son was a breach. I had an emergency c-section and my twins were born 6 weeks early. The hospital was great didn't rush me into anything, and had me up walking a day later. That was in 2008.

In July of this year I had my youngest son I also had a c-section since I had one with my twins. This time however, they were a lot busier, and I felt as if I was being rushed into things. They tried to get me up and about that night after having him, but there was no way that was going to work. Not even five minutes after I got out my room was being cleaned for someone else.

With my son i didnt know i was in labor all i knew was i couldnt get comfortable at all so i told my mom to call the doctor he said he didnt think i was in labor and my sons father was about to leave to work so i told him "look im uncomfortable and it doesn't feel right take me to the hospital and call ur boss to tell him ur gonna be late" we went to labor and delivery and they checked me come to find out i was 3cm dilated..they told me while they set up the room they wanted me to walk round to help the baby drop more..i walked round the hospital for like 10minutes and then went to my room..i had my mom sister, brother n law, mother n law, boyfriend, and his friend there when my contractions got so bad i was sitting in the rocking chair they had there and i told the doctors i didnt want anything for the pain i wanted to have him natural they respected my wishes and had very many things i could do to speed the process up..well they put me in the shower and cuz my mother n law was sitting on her laptop checking her emails while i was in labor crying and screaming cuz it hurt the nurse thought it was very rude and threw her outta the room so everyone lefted and i got into the shower "which felt like i was in heaven" the pain went away some of the time then when i got out i laid in bed and the nurse came and checked me again i was 7 1/2cm and not ready to push yet n was in alot of pain so she gave me something to ease the pain for a lil bit..i barely remember in between being checked and having my son the pain was so bad i blared out most of it..but my sons shoulder got stuck on my pelvic bone so the doctor had to reach in "which tore me" and pull him out they thought his shoulder was broken so i wasnt able to hold him til he was checked out but once he was seen by the doctor i was happy to hear he was fine and okay nothing was wrong and that he was a healthy baby..

oh lord, my delivery with my son was horrible!!!!! i am so scared for life, it makes me really think hard if i want another baby! i got to the hospital at 9 pm thursday night, i was 2 cm and 80percent effaced my contractions were 5 mins apart. i got to 5 cm a half hour later and they gave me my epidural. everything was going good after the epidural, well i thought they were haha. i stopped dilating at 5 cm and at 10 am friday morning they came in and told me they would put me on pitocin if i hadnt dilated further in the next 2 hours... well 7 hours later they came in and they started me on the pitcin. 5 mins after that i was 10 cm, then the epidural wore off, i pushed for 6 hours with no epidural. my baby got stuck and wouldnt move, so for the 6 hours that i was pushing my baby wasnt moving at all!!! and the whole time i was pushing the nurse kept walking out of the room telling me that i should just keep pushing and that she would come in if she thought that the baby was going to crown anytime soon!!! so after the 6 hours of pushing, the doctor came in and i told her i was done pushing, i was too tired and i just wanted to have my son already. so they took me for my cesarian, and half way thru my meds wore off AGAIN!!!! so i felt everything that they were doing, i went to recovery for an hour, and then got transferred to another hospital via and ambulance right after my cesarian, and didnt get to see my son for the first 12 hours of his life. it was the most traumatic thing ever. i wouldnt wish it on my worst enemy!!!

I went into labor on a wednesday nite before i gave birth to my son that friday morning. It was long and painful. The epidural wasnt really keeping the pain away it was just numbing it and then when i was almost ready to give birth it stopped working. Giving birth to my beautiful baby boy was an experience of a life time eventhough it hurt like hell

My water broke around 1am, got to the hospital, labored for 22 hours before they decided he was stuck... I wasn't dialating but they could stretch me to a 10 which means he wasn't coming down. I made myself sick when they told me I needed a c-section... I hadn't read about those. I puked all the way to the OR. To make it worse, I could feel them burning, cutting and pulling. Finally after screaming my head off, they knocked me out. I'm still upset about having to have a c-section and even more upset that I didn't deal with the pain to see my son the minute he was born.

Jenee- That is great that your son was healthy. I was very lucky to have two very easy births. I have no problem with hospital births and really liked mine. If someone has health issues and needs a c-section then go for it, that makes sense. I have nothing against c-sections or hospital births. I'm sorry if it sounded like I do.

Some people have no choice but to have a hospital birth. I was diagnosed with Pre-Eclampsia when I was 32 weeks. I made it to 37 weeks before my doctor decided to induce. I had no chocie here. My blood pressure was 169/112 and rising fast. I was at risk for having a stroke. In a 2 day span my BP had gone from 155/90 to where it was when I was induced. My doctor said that it was going up too fast. I was induced. My labor was 43 hours. I had to be given Cirvidil and Pitocin. My sons heart rate dropped to around 100. I was about to have a c-section when it went back up. My doctor cancelled the c-section Even though it was long and didn't really go the way I wanted, I was just happy that my son arrived healthy.

I hear alot about how doctors rush to get you in and out but when I told them I didnt want meds they said "good for you!" they were encouraging the entire time and I didnt feel powerless at all. I really like Providence Hospital because if they dont actually care they at least are good at pretending they do. Next time around I do plan on using a midwife but I have had no problem with my doctor. My doctor never actually delivered my babies though, I gave birth to my son within 5 pushes and arrived at the hospital 3 hours before having him. With my daughter I got to the hospital 1/2 hour before having her and pushed her out within 5 pushes.

My advice is to labor at home as long as possible. My experiences were good because I didnt give the doctors time for pitocin or epidural options.

I had a very easy labor with both of my children. With my son I started labor at 10 pm and had him at 845 in the morning. With my daughter I started labor at 130 am and had her at 830 that morning. They were both natural births with no pain meds and my water was broke by the doctor both times. Very easy births!! I feel so lucky!

My labor with my twins was not that bad. I ran to the bathroom at 2 am to pee and my water broke. I didnt think much of it because i thought it was just pee. I didnt feel pain at all. No contractions. I wasn't going to go to the hospital. But my mother in law insisted i should go. When i went to the hospital i was as if nothing. I told them i think my water broke, but i wasnt sure. The nurses were like yeah it maybe nothing because i was only 36 weeks pregnant. My schedueled c-section was two days later. When the nurses checked my i was 6 cm dialated. And yet i ddint feel any pain. It was crazy. My blood pressure went up and i had to have an emergency c-section. I wanted to give natural birth to the twins. The c-section was horrible. I went anemic and my blood pressure was outrageous. They put me on magnesium and it just made me feel even worse. The same night after my c-section they put me to walk. I was in so much pain i didnt even want to move. But in the end it was all worth it. I have two beautiful twin girls. They were born healthy weighing 6 lbs 7 oz and 5 lbs 10 oz.

I thought i was suffering from running stomach when every moment i was feeling like going to toilet. My water break at 6am in the morning but i was not feeling any sign of pain.So i took my bath, arrange my emergency bag,and rushed to the hospital. When i arrived at the hospital, the midvives examined me and said its premature rupture of membranes that the labour has not began but i was admitted into the ward for observation.Till evening period i started feeling little contractions but everybody around me was expecting to see tears run from my eyes since it was my first child but nothing. The contractions were just so short to an extent that even the midwives did not know it was serious. When i called them that am feeling pains they should come and check, they said i should go and sleep on my bed that its not yet time.Untill when i could not longer bear the pains and i did not know the baby was on the way,i went straight into the labour room, slept on the delivery bed and immediately i pushed out my child with that pains and the midwives only came when they heard a cry of a baby.It was God who delivered me not man.All glory be to God that no deformation occured but just the fact that i had a tear but am fine today.

Elesha, I totally agree that everyone should watch "The Business of Being Born"!!!!! I have now had three c-sections because of my first. I was given an epidural (before I technically should have), immediately started on pitocin, then ended up with my baby in minor distress and not moving down after 1 1/2 hrs. of pushing. Did a c-section because I couldn't switch positions and his heart rate would drop some when I would try. Turns out his head was just turned a bit, so had I been capable of simply repositioning my body, he would have come right out.

Personally I don't think I would have ever made the choice to have an out of hospital birth, but I absolutely would have had a midwife with me and not just accepted epidural/pit as a given.

I don't think that my nurses and doctors acted with the intention of just getting me in and out, but the current "standard" of epidural followed right away by strong pitocin created an unnecessary c-section situation. I didn't feel rushed, but felt powerless once I was unable to make a simple change of position. By the time I had the c-section I was so out of it. The nurses had to hold my arms around my son to get a pic of me holding him in the recovery room. I was violently ill the rest of the evening due to an entire day of drugs followed by a surgery.

I just wish I had known more about today's assumptions and standards, and made more of an effort to avoid drugs and a c-section. It's frustrating that mine was totally avoidable and now I've had 3 and have no choice anymore. Now my risks increase with each pregnancy. I really wish I'd better educated myself.

My labour with my first was crazy! When I got to the hospital I was 5 cm dialated just transitioning into active labour and my contractions would not break in between! They tried giving me some nitro spray (what they give to someone who is having an angina attack) to try and relax my uterus, it didnt work... It took them 45 minutes to start an IV so that I could also get the epidural. I finally got settled and was told to rest... but 20 minutes later my sons heart rate almost stopped. Drs and nurses came rushing into the room. 1 nurse had her hand inside doing compressions to keep his heart beating. They were trying to get me ready for an emergency C section but he dropprd too low in the birth canal so they used the vaccum to deliver him. The doctor was so frantic to get him out that my tailbone broke durring the delivery! Crazy delivery but my son recovered very quickly! Not quite the same story for myself, though! lol

I cant believe i had a second one after that experience!
