Might be pregnant, no positive HPT--weird situation?

[deleted account] ( 13 moms have responded )

ok, so Ive got a really weird situation....

I was with my boyfriend in August. I would have conceived around Aug.14th. ... Sept came and at 1wk,4days late-On Sept.8th, my period came--but it was light and short. Abnormally light, and only lasted 3days.

**side note:**We havent done it since late August. (I live in PA, USA; he lives in England; 2yrs+ for us and happy and strong going! He plans to immigrate soon, too!) I was visiting him over there for a whole month, and loved it!**

So after that, and the test was still negative, I figured, "ok, so Im not."

But then come October, I started to really get symptoms other than fatigue.....and as far as my period--nothing.

Its now Nov.8th, and Im 4weeks late TODAY, and my period started real early this morning.... I took a test Tuesday night, which was still negative.

(in High school, my friends mom told me her one friend was having her period for 3months before they stopped, but that she was also pregnant-the whole while-and healthy.)

so, Im guessing from all the info and stuff Ive looked up lately--ok HPT dont always work all the time for all women--some women and some pregnancies may need a blood test or ultrasound for the pregnancy to be properly detected....and some get their periods sporatically throughout sometimes....

And I have a whole list typed up of all my symptoms through October to current.

I know whats normal for me, and whats been going on is not normal. And I have always had a regular cycle. Ive never been more than 2-3days early or late. Never once. Until Sept.2012? Bit strange to me it seems....

And Im not using any form of female BC--the only form we have used is the condom....though, admittedly, we havent always used them...we hate them....

if you have no income or anything you will qualify for medicaid so i would apply for that because it will also cover your baby

You can also go into a walk in clinic and tell them your low income and that you think you might be prego and some will do it at no charge.

And once you do get it confermed then I would suggest applying for the medical insurance thorough your state; plus if you need it apply for WIC; which will help you through your pregnancy

I had it with my son that the tests never worked. I went into the doctor and they did a blood test and an ultrasound and thats how I found out about my son. And to prove a point that the tests didn't work for me; I took them at 8 months along and still they came back negative. I did bleed with him also.

My mom had normal periods when she was prego with her girls. It does happen and it happens pretty frequently. As long as things are going right then its nothing to be too concerned about. Its the heavy bleeding.

at 14 wks you could just ask for an ultrasound.

a friend of mine got negative tests over negative tests and went to the doctor with a friend (her friend's doctor) and she explained the situation and he said "lift up your shirt I'm gonna do a pregnancy test" and used a doppler where she clearly heard her sons heartbeat. she then got an ultrasound and was 7 and a half months along!

A blood test is the most accurate regardless of how far along you are, so that is probably what they will do and it can take a few days or so to get the results good luck!

Thanks MegganB. ... If I cant get in with my own gp for this week--thats Ill do (clinic).

...should I ask for both blood and ultrasound same day?--or what though?

And I do plan to go with WIC--its what my mom had with all us girls so....yeah. lol

yeah, Im gonna see what I can get done with my doctor.

And thing is--I cant afford an OBGYN. Ive been unemployed since July, still living at home, and in the process of finding a job (got an interview Tuesday *fingers crossed*) and under my dad's though-work insurance.... My parents wont and cant pay for a $100-copay for me to see an OB right now. :(

(Im the oldest of 5girls, and money is REALLY tight right now....)

You really should get an obgyn even if your not pregnant, depending on your insurance coverage they may or may not cover it because it can be seen as not medically necessary. I have never heard of a blood test coming back negative, unless the blood specimen was tainted in some way then that can happen. but make sure you go to an obgyn and have a blood test unless they think its okay for an ultrasound but they would more then likely have to do a transvaginal because it can be to soon. and a Doppler usually wont work until your over a certain amount of weeks they dont even bother with it.

I don't know she did not mention that, just that she took several home tests all negative, and several blood pregnancy tests all negative before she encountered that doctor.

[deleted account]

oh wow....thanks Jami. I will ask for that. Hopefully my doctor will "OK" doing that.

The only thing Im worried about now, is that since Im only on my parents insurance since I still live at home, I dont know what it covers.... What if the doctor tells me it wont cover the ultrasound method until Ive had a blood test?

Im going to see our family doctor/practitioner (I dont have a GYN--blame my mother for me not ever having seen one). ...

But yeah--Ill take your advice and ask if I can just get an ultrasound to elimate any further guess-work. ... see where that takes me. lol

Do you know if your friend had any periods while she was though?

Thanks Megan. We're hopeful that nothing serious is wrong with me.

Even pregnancy would be better than finding that I might Cervical cancer or something....

Here's to hoping for the best outcome! lol :)
