hello, i had the mirena iud inserted on may 13th... today is june 7th. And i have been bleeding since. It is getting really frustrating. I called my doc office... one nurse said it could be that my body is rejecting it and to wait a week and call back. i did. but when i called back another said it could be my body getting used to it and call back in another week. I just wanted to know if ne 1 else has been through this, and wanted to know if it gets better or worse. Or if ne one can just give me an opinion... thank u.

Hi everyone I was reading your posts about bleeding for almost 3mos well I have had my Mirena for just about 3mos and have been bleeding everyday since then, but my issue is that I have been passing golf ball size clots for the past 4days some not so bad but mostly that size. I am a bit worried, I do feel some "pinching" some cramping but overall pain is ok. Just wondered if anyone else has had these symptoms as well. Its really interfering with daily normal activities.

when i go in for my 6 week check up on monday i am having mirena inserted and when i chose that form of birth control my midwife told us that it might cause bleeding when inserted but as i am breastfeeding there is a good chance i wont actually have a period at all because it causes your body to not have periods and most women dont get periods for a while if they are breastfeeding.

I was told by my aunt and my cousin that it hurt to have it inserted and all i can say is it cant be worse than having your membranes stripped during the last few weeks of pregnancy. I hope the bleeding isnt too bad. I can deal with a little but any more than that would be frustrating/

I have had good luck with the mirena but I do know it is not for every woman....my friend actually had pain with hers and had it removed...after five years i had mine removed, and i know I got pregnant within 3 months, so have a backup plan ladies if u dont want anymore kids!

I had irregular bleeding off an on for about 6 months after I had the Mirena inserted. One of the ways Mirena works by thinning the lining of your uterus so an egg can't implant. That lining is sloughed away, causing your bleeding. That means it's working! My doc said that it's normal for the bleeding to last about 6 months. It's been over a year now and I still have some occasional spotting and cramps every month. The doctor said it's because my uterus is still "trying" to have a period.

I had mine inserted in October and it is a VERY normal side effect to bleed this much at the beginning. If you have unbearable cramping or other symptoms of something 'not feeling right' in that area definitely go in to get checked but if it's just annoying bleeding I'd wait it out. I bled almost every day for over 5mo, and now I spot here and there sometimes, I just started spotting yesterday when I haven't in over 2mo. And I'm sure the spotting is gone by now lol, which is pretty darn awesome. The first few months sucked though not knowing when I'd be bleeding or what since it'd stop for a couple days then start again.

But, it is very normal for it to take 3-6mo for your body to regulate with the Mirena. Generally after that time, however your bleeding is after the first 6mo is how it's most likely going to be the rest of the time you have the mirena.

I had one put in a little over a year ago. I bled for about 4 months and I haven't had a period since. Sometimes I'll still get the symptoms like i'm going to start (PMS) but I never do. My doctor told me that I could experience bleeding for up to 6 months after I had it inserted and that was normal but mine only lasted 4.

I used to have the mirena. i bled for 3months, but i got mine taken out because i had horrible side effects. all of my friends have it and they said they bled for 3months and then had little to no bleeding after that. i would say give it about 3 months and if it doesnt stop then say something to the doctor. Hope i've helped!
