I was wondering if any of you ladies have tried the Mirena IUD. I had mine put in almost seven weeks after having my baby. Afterwards I bled for about two hours and then spotted the next day. I got my period ten days after I had it inserted and it lasted for about 5 to 6 days and then afterwards I have just continued to spot/bleed daily. I have had it for five weeks and should be getting my period soon. How long does this spotting/bleeding usually last??

i got this iud about 4 months after my girls were born. i was iffy about this whole thing but i thought it was good. The doctor told me to give it about 3 months.. she said that i will definitly spot/bleed for sometime. i cant even describe my situation as "spotting".. i bled for 12 weeks straight. not one day a break! .. i went threw soo many boxes of tampons! just as of maybe a month ago, it slowed down tremendously, and i havnt even gotten my period.
the doctor also told me that if i start to feel "not normal" cramping, call her because that means that the IUD moved from its place and its not good. so i called and made an apointment, well See what happens. Even though i tought it was a great idea to not have to take a pill every day, there are soo many complications and wouldnt recommend it. Good Luck mommies

Well, I've had Merina in June 28th of 2009.. I've had it for over a year now.. Yeah, in the beginning there was cramping and stuff.. But, as for spotting.. I get that once every month.. or so.. It varies from woman to woman.. Some bleed and some don't, as I said.. It normally depends on the woman and how her cycle works, really..

I do not want to discourage anyone from this product but I had a bad experience. I bled for 2 days after placement and then again 10 days later this time it did not stop for 5 months. I gain at least 30 pounds in the 9 months I had it and my partner complained about discomfort.

they tole me (when i had it) that u can bleed/spot damn near every day or it could make my period lighter or heavier or make it stop all the way. but i wasnt comfortable with not having my period. but i tried it and it was not as convinent as the comersals make out to be lol. i gained weight lik crazy my hair fell out lik crazy and my period was so outta wack it was rediculous so i got it taken out and now im on the pill. id much rather remember to take a pill every day then get all messed bc of a bc thats suppose to be convenient...

Amy I guess we think alike!! I have said myself that it works because you're always bleeding!

i bled for about 3 months, stopped for a month, just had my period and have been spotting since the period ended. it's annoying. i think the real reason the IUD works as BC is because you are always bleeding and never want to have sex lol. prob just me though. i don't know if it is the just having a baby that killed my sex drive, the extra 30 lbs i'm still carrying, or the IUD.

It is different for everyone. I bled for four months after I had mine, sometimes light, usually not. I was bleeding a lot before I even got it, though, so I'm not sure if it was caused by the IUD, or just a pre-existing situation aggravated by it. Either way, it DOES stop. And it's worth the hassle, because I haven't had a period in over nine months and I used to be regular like a clock. Lol.

No, I only have one baby and so far no issues with my cervix that I know of. If i'm still spotting after the three months then I probably will be having it removed

do you have more then one baby? or have u had issues with your cervix? because i had gotten mine 8 weeks after my son and im still having problems (and my sons 10 month) im actually going to be getting it taken out.. my dr said its cause of having soo many children so close in ager (3 babies in 2 years) so my bodys not accepting it also i been having cancer cells on my cervix since my 2nd baby so she wants to keep an eye on all that. for a while she's had me on nuva ring to help regulate my body after all its been through.... vie herd sooo many mixed remarks about iud so its hard to make a decision. best advice is wait it out and keep your dr visits up but in all seriousness you no whats the best for you:-) good luck!

I got mine when my son was 5 months old. I have had a hell of a time since I've had it. I had the problem with always spotting. I was looking for an "easy" birth control as I forget to take a pill, I am none too impressed with this. I am going on a year and a half with having mine in hopes that my body is just taking longer to adjust to this but I don't think it ever will. I only get maybe a week break without bleeding and then I'm back to the spotting. As with the other comments, everyone is different and I hope that yours gets better with time! :)

My doctor told me that the spotting can last up to 3 - 6 months but after that your flow will decrease.

I personally didn't spot, I bled for two months which made me mad because the whole point of it was to decrease my periods. I had to go on iron pills because I was actually getting sick. At my 8 week check up, my doctor noticed that I expelled mine. My experience with it was awful. I hope yours gets better!!

I bled for nearly 6 months after insertion. Then I stopped bleeding all together and developed ovarian cysts. After 18 months I had it removed and am finally getting back on track with my body's natural schedule. I have heard great things from others who have used it for years with no issue, but I wasn't as fortunate.

well my situation is a bit different my son was a yr and a half when i got mine and had it removed recently after two and half yrs of having it. when i first got mine i bled for about a wk or so then pretty much every month there after i spotted for bout four days and thats what my "period" consisted of every month. unfortunately i had to have it removed it was dislodged and causing severe pains it could compare to labor pains so i had mine removed. but everbodys body is different it just depends on how yours takes to it.

It differs! I got mine 6wks after having my daughter and I started bleeding the next day and it lasted for 4 months!!!! But my sister who had her little boy 2 days after me, got her IUD and she only bled for 2 wks and now she has regular periods. So it all depends on you!

i had light spotting continuously for 3 months, and now for the past 2 weeks it has almost completely disappeared. i think commonly spotting doesn't last more than 2 months, but up to 6 months is still considered okay.

I think it's one of those 'different for everyone' things. I had mine inserted at 6 weeks postpartum. Had some bleeding that day. After that, no blood at all until my son was 11 months old. Now, two months later, it's spotting almost every day and maybe two instances where I *might* have had a period. I have heard that the spotting can last until somewhere between years 1 and 2 of having Mirena.
