So, I had my son 6 months ago and I got mirena inserted in when he was 2 months. I have had nothing but bad luck with it and I am getting it removed on the 14th of September. I was considering getting the paraguard but I know nothing about it and need some advice. The side effects from the mirena I got were really bad headaches, I have had my period or spotting since I got inserted, mood swings, my hair is falling out, it hurts to have sex if my hubby goes all the way in. Can someone tell me what side effects come with the paraguard? I just googled it and it seems to have the same side effects as mirena but there's no hormones in it, right?
Someone please help me...

I was on depo for 4 years and had no sex drive what so ever. I can't do the hormones because they mess with me. I have tried it all. lol

yes i was talking about the depo shot. Before i got pregnant with my daughter i was switched around so much on birth control pills - they made me horrible sick. After my daughters birth i talked to my doctor and we decided on the shot. He said i could have thew same reaction to it as i did the pill but i feel amazing. I have a little spotting - but the cramps have gone, and the sex drive is still amazing. The only thing is if it does make you sick or anything - you have to wait the 3 months to try something else. But i personally love it

i don't know if you guys have this where you live or if its an option you are interested in - but i am on a birth control shot. I get a needle every 3 months. Its 97% effective

Are you talking about the depo shot? People have told me about it but I think the mirena has less hormones than that and I couldn't even handle that low of hormones, I think all hormones mess me up, lol!! It really stinks I don't have a lot of birth control options

I may try it. I'm gonna talk to him monday..
My doc said that if I get my tubes tied and then untied I would not be able to get prego natural with out paying $12,000 to get some thing done because after they are tied it's hard to get prego naturally after you have then untied. Sorry for the confusion. lol

I totally understand thats another reason i got the mirena out because I had no sex drive. Now its down to me getting my tubes tied, and I wish he would just wear a condom so I didn't have to go thru this I don't feel that I am ready for this ya know! Try the paraguard, some ppl dont have those side effects, I'm at the point that I wish I hadnt gotten it taken out but my doc would not give me anything for my cramps.

How many kids do you have? They wont tie my tubes. Do you want more kids? My hubby is willing to get his stuff cut it will just take time to do. But he hates condoms and wants to be protected till then, ya know. If you don't want to get yout tubes tied I wouldn't, it's your body.

I have two kids and I am 27, my doctor was very iffy about it but I told her I was 100% sure because I have depression issues linked to my two previous pregnancies and sometimes it is pretty bad. I'm unsure about it now I might regret it and want another child in a few years. I'm frustrated because if he would just use a condom and spermicide I would trust that until I can think this through a little longer. I think I'm gonna lay everything down on the table tonight, I shouldn't have to go through this just so he can get his pleasure ya know!

Oh jeez, I totally agree. I only have one child and I am 29, my doc wouldnt do it. He told me that if I did decide to have a child that it would cost me $12,000 because I would have to get some thing done, I forget what. But he said I wouldnt be able to get prego naturally. I don't think you should get it done unless you are absoluetly sure. I could of talked my doc into doing it but I wasnt sure I wanted it done so I just told my hubby he wouldn't do it.

I may have missed something but if he said you can't get pregnant naturally why do you have to worry about birth control. Common sense tells me it's because you don't want him to be wrong and then you have to pay that money because you thought you couldn't be pregnant? Just curious. Ya this whole topic has me pretty stressed out, but if you havent' tried the paraguard yet you might want to, I didnt have a lot of side effects just the PMS

Thank god someone replied...I have an appointment next monday to get my mirena removed and talk about paraguard with the doctor. When I googled it I got the same side effects as mirena and I am terrified to get it and have the same thing happen. My hubby just wants me to want sex and not have these moods swings cause it's tearing us apart. :(

I am very surprized that no one has responded, well I will be the first. IK have had both, and had them both removed. I had the paraguard for three and a half years, honestly you should try it but I will warn you that I had terrible cramping and bad periods. I had the mirena and got it removed last week due to the weight gain. Now I feel so stuck because I have an appt to get my tubes tied next week but don't know if I should. I feel that my only other option is th paraguard but those cramps, ugh. I'm hoping someone on here will give me some advice as well. Good luck. p.s. there are no hormones in the paraguard and I had none of those side effects with it, just what I already said about the cramping!
