MOM OF ONE thinking of becoming Mama of two in the next few years...

My son is going to be 5 in August, and me and hubby are thinking about having another child in the next year or two. Does anyone have just a big age gap between there children and if so, how do they react?

My children are 5 years apart. My oldest daughter reacted very well to it and loved having a little sister. Now she's 12 and getting into the "teenage" moods. She still plays with her little sister, but sometimes she gets real annoyed. A natural part of kids growing up is that they don't want to be saddled with a younger sibling, no matter if they're a year younger or ten!
I agree with Lacey: either they'll fight a lot or they won't BUT all kids fight sometimes!

I am 7 years older than my little brother. I remember lots of things about him growning up and he was my little buddy that I took everywhere, however once I got older (high school age) I was rather mean to him because he had gotten so attached to me and I just wanted to be independent (the rebellious teen, I guess!) but my parents had me driving him to school / picking him up / etc. So, my only opinion on having kids further apart is to not make the older kids feel like a parent/guardian of the younger child, it's nice for them to help & learn about responsibility but they are just a child too.

I only have one kid so far, but my husband and his brother are 8 years apart and they really have a problem interacting with they can never find anything to talk about since my brother in law in still in high school and my husband has been out of high school for quite a while. But thats a bit of an extreme age gap.

My oldest and middle child are 4 years apart and it's fine. She helps out alot with the littler ones, but it all depends on the kids. There's gaps in my family that span 10 years (my sister and youngest bro are 10 yrs apart) and mostly we got along fine. Don't worry about age gaps, either your kids will fight like cats and dogs, or they'll be best friends, age gaps don't matter. My boys are 16 months apart and all they do is fight.
