How do you stop small children putting everything in their mouths?

Thanx for the advice, bubs is only 8 mths and a human vacuum. Unfortunately I have a 6 yr old and a 3 yr old who don't get the concept of not dropping everything. I am literally going out of my mind chasing her around. We have had I near miss with choking on a small sticker today. All I can hope for is that she gets out of this stage soon

I don't think you can. It is the way babies learn about taste and feel so it is very normal and they will always do it. You just have to keep an eye on them to make sure they don't put in things that shouldn't be in their mouths.

It depends on the age. Babies and young toddlers tend to put everything in their mouth because it is their way of exploring the world. You can't really stop it, so the best thing to do is make sure that everything around them is not something they can choke on or that will harm them in any way.

Once they hit the age of teething, babies often put things in their mouth to chew on because it relieves the pressure of their gums.

If your child is old enough to understand when you tell them no, then try explaining to them why you don't want them to do it. I haven't had this problem with my child as he's not old enough to understand yet, so I can't help you other then suggesting you reprimand them when they are doing it. If the child is older, you could also try putting something with a yukky taste (that won't harm them) on a particular item, so that when they put it in their mouths they won't like it. It could work...

Good luck!
