We are moving from CA to PA, traveling by car with an average of 10 hours of driving a day alternating with a day of rest. We have a small hatchback, so space is limited. I need ideas to keep everyone from going crazy besides movies.

LOL I thought I was the only crazy mommy doing things like this!! Well I didn't go cross country just NC to LA with our daughter who at the time was VERY colicky---it was nerve racking and she was only 8 months old. She slept alot and we made sure we stoppd alot and got her outside every 2 hours or so. I would suggest crayons (for your 3yrold), maybe buy him or her a disposable camera and let them have fun taking pictures of their first cross country car ride! Either way GOOD LUCK!!

with your 3yr old get him/her a little activity pack with crayons and little books and with the 1yr old it all depends on how he/she sleeps coz when i took my little boy on holiday he slept for 3hours of the 8 hour journey i find with the smallest 1s they are more difficult to entertain but a good childerns cd ought to do it the 3yr old might like it to if it had nursery rhyms they know on it

Have you considered driving at night so the kids can just sleep through it? Just a suggestion. When I take long trips with my kids it helps to have somebody sit in the back seat with them rather than constantly having to reach behind you to keep them happy. Play games like "I spy.." with them. If your 3 year old doesn't get car sick from reading, a coloring book is a quiet activity. As far as the 1 year old goes, they will most likely sleep alot more. Make sure to make short stops every few hours so they can stretch. I know my little ones get sore bums if they sit in their carseats too long and that can make the trip miserable.
