Hi.....we are emabrking on a journey to Europe for 6mths...my 5yr old son absolultey adores my parents and I am concerned of how he will cope from being away...he understands what is happening however he mentioned today that he wants to put glue on my mums hand at the airport so she can come with us....is this normal reaction or should we be trying something else ?? we are a very open family and have discussed his feeling setc, my parents are his only concern !!!

We moved to another state not over seas but my son still misses his grandparents so we all got webcams and talk via Skype whenever they get a chance, We also do that with his daddy who is currently overseas as well. That way he can see and hear them, Skype is a free program all you'll need to purchase is a webcam just make sure it has a microphone on it too :)

Thanks so much...so glad to hear this is normal....just have to be patient I guess....however, speaking to them when he feels he misses or needs to hear their voices is a good idea, will take you up on that one - thanks again

completely normal.... my two year old and i just moved overseas to be with my husband and he kept crying on the plane for my mother and saying he wanted to go home and be with her. what i did was tell him that we would call her at night and he could talk to her at bed time, we did this every night for the first week and now we just call once a week but he still tells her he misses her and he wants to go back to texas.
