My 10 year old daughter won't quit sneaking food at night.

Its not that I don't mind her having food at night if she is hungry but its the fact that she doesn't throw her trash away. We have found rotten apples under the mattress, chocolate smeared on the bed sheets, crackers behind the bed. Its just plain nasty and her room smells so bad. We have tried everything but nothing works. Help!!

My stepdaughter does this. It is a constant battle and I am wondering IF the only solution is for us to lock up the snacks. AS a result, she has cavities now and needs a lot of dental work. My SD is awake and knows what she is doing. She also lies about it when caught at first. Not sure of a good consequence for it, and it is NOT because she is hungry. I think she does it just for the sneaky factor (she likes to sneak and stay up late in her room).

I would just make a rule, no eating in the bedroom, EVER. If she breaks the rules there needs to be a consequence.

Like Aimee said, I'd put a lock on the kitchen door (or on the doors and fridge) and if she wants something she can ask. My nephew is 9 and is the same way. Everytime he's at my house, i make sure i lock everything up (not that i dont want him to eat just sick of cleanin the mess and tired of him not asking) now, he has to ask and i also make him sit at the kitchen table when he's eating (which he hates)

if i was u i would put a lock on the kitchen door and if she does want food then u give her what she wants but tell her she needs to put rubbish in a bin and not all over her room and make her tidy her room if she makes a mess strip her bed if she gets chocolate on it and then maybe she will think twice of makin such a mess. i know how u feel i have a 9 year old that usto be like that i did the same and i cured her after about 6 months every time she make a mess i made her clean it up and we had tears and tantrums but i made her do it hope this helps and good luck if she does clean it then get her a reward of somethin she likes and that will encourage her more
