my daughter ( 7 months) hated eating the food that tasted like nothing till i added some fruit mash to mix in....

they automatically shove the food out with their tongue. My baby did that for a month...

Now she gulps it down... the faster the better for her now lol

If she's trying to chew it, maybe make it a bit thicker. I know that I only made the rice cereal really runny for about 2-3 days before I made it thicker and my daughter enjoyed it so much more.

That can be quite normal to start with, until they get used to that new sensation. My 2.5 yr old was like that at the start. Then she would eat anything after a few days. Also is it rice cereal? if so what do yo mix it with? I was mixing rice cereal with breast milk when I first started her on solids

as Deidre said make it thicker mine does not handle thin consistencys even at 12 months but will eat it (well chew it not swallow) when its in between not too thick though. also between 5-6 months refusing to spoon feed and spitting out food is normal sometimes for a while they play with it or go through stages before they start to eat properly

I started feeding my last baby at 5 months also. He is 7 months now. I had started with some rice, fruit and water mixed and he like it in all but he would make a mess!:) So I got a bottle and made a slit in the nipple and fed him like that, and he did great.

That's normal behavior at 5 months. Right now she's mostly interested in food because he sees you with it - not because she's hungry. I know my son behaved the same way, but he was just as interested the computer, books, etc that I'd have as he was the food on my plate. The spitting the food out is the tongue thrust reflex. It usually goes away by 6 months or so. After that, your little girl will be ready to eat solids on a regular basis. Right now, I wouldn't expect her to actually keep most of the food in her mouth. Makes for messy but fun meal times!

hi both my children were very hungry babies, especially my son i actually gave him some solid food at 4 months, just the tiniest bit of baby rice mixed with their milk or a little bit of rusk with his milk i gave it to him about 5 o clock then a feed at about half 7 and he slept all night! as he got older and hungrier i gave that to him at lunch time then about a week later he had it for breakfast

i made my son's cereal thick and switched back and forth from oatmeal to rice cereal. in the mornings i mixed fruit in it and at night i would give him the meat flavored baby food. by the time he was 7 months he was eating mashed potatoes and string beans...

That's all normal.

It's just new to her and she doesn't know what to do with it.

My 7 month old son did the same thing. He acted like he wanted it, but when i put it in his mouth he just spit it out. Just try starting with a tbsp at a time and work up. She'll get use to it in no time =)

when i would give my son rice cereal I would add a little fruit to mix in with it. He loves it all now. I just can't get him to eat peas, lol.
