My 6 month old still wants to eat 4 or 5 times a night

I need some advice on how to get my 6 month old son to stop eating 4 or 5 times a night. I was told it would only be like this for a few months. He won't go to sleep without the breast. Then, when he is asleep, he wakes after 2 hours and wants more. How do I get him to go to sleep without the breast and to sleep through the night?

It doesn't sound like you are feeding him too much. Are you offering breastmilk before he has the solids? Solids are only for practice at this age, so while you are wanting to allow hime to start trying foods and experimenting with textures, you also need to make sure he is not cutting back on the amount of milk he is getting during the day, or this may cause him to wake at night. It isn't unusual for him to wake one or twice at night, at his age, though. You may not get him to sleep right through the night without the breast.

The other thing to ask is, is he actually FEEDING or is he pacifying? Try to work out which one it is he is doing.

I have started him on solid foods, but he also gets breast milk like every 3 hours during the day. He gets some solid food for lunch and some for dinner. Am I giving him too much solid food? His doctor says he is growing fine, so I don't think I'm feeding him too much. And I know he's getting enough food. This is my first child, so I have no idea what to do.....lol!

Have you started him on solid foods yet? And how often is he feeding during the day. Maybe you need to offer him your breast more frequently during the day?
