I put my one year old daughter to sleep and put her in her own bed but she wakes up to breast feed around 2 am. After that I am so tired from everything I usually let her sleep with me and my husband. I don't know when to stop breastfeeding or even how to do it but that seems to be the only reason why she wakes up.

My 2 and a half year old son has just started sleeping through. I tried everything from more food, bonjella and more. try putting him to bed while he is still awake then he will get the heang of putting him self back to sleep in the middle of the night. He may be looking for the last thing that put him to sleep. dummy, bottle, mummy etc... Some children just don't sleep through. Try sleeping during the day with him every chance you get and if it get to bad for you last resort put him in bed with you. for a couple of hours so you can get some sleep.

Hang in there!!! If he is on solids maybe bump them up a bit, as they tell you that if they are getting enough to eat during the day they will sleep through the night. It worked for my son. It could also be habit, so maybe try to settle without feeding.

My one year old daughter still wakes up once or twice a night. Make sure he is getting enough to eat during the day. It sounds like he is teething though. See if his gums are swollen or if he's tugging at his ears or crying out in pain. Those are usually signs of teething. If he doesn't have any of those, then he's either hungry or he wakes up because he always has. At his age, technically he should be able to sleep through the night without waking, but that's easier said than done =] Try to feed him some cereal or a little snack before bed & see if that helps.

first, try to sleep when he sleeps. have you tried playing soft, classical music at night? are you feeding him cereal? it could be teething, or, he could be hungry. if he is eating cereal, try feeding him some before bed. if he's not eating cereal yet, ask the doctor if its okay to start. the johnson and johnson lavender and chamomile bath and lotion worked for my son. and the soft classical and a back rub usually kept sleeping all night. did he sleep through the night before? have any of his routines been changed? thats all that i can suggest. Good luck to you.

I like all the above suggestions. You might also try turkey and rice baby food (stage 2 should be ok for an 8 month old). And if you think he's teething you might try teething tablets; they are my saviors. My little guy was doing the same thing... rarely he'd sleep through the night but most of the time he was waking up a few times so i changed our routine.

My guy is 10 months. At 6pm (give or take) I feed him baby food (not something with fruit and no juice...too much sugar) then around 7 I give him a bath with lavender, chamomile baby bath. Then i turn on baby mozart, rub him down with lavender, vanilla lotion and nurse him and try to lay him down awake. We had to work on letting him put himself to sleep, once he got the hang of going to sleep on his own the night wakings decreased.

Also, I have to get him out of the house preferrably somewhere with people and if he gets a little sun that helps too. Otherwise he gets a little cabin fever and is more irritable.
