My husband and I were both skinny babies- could it just be genetics?

Hi Gwen!

We're kinda in the same boat, our son is 11 months and weighs just over 17lbs. Our doctor just switched him onto a diet with more calories, but we don't see a big difference in weight gain. Both his father and I are smaller (5'5 and 4'11) and active side and our little guy is VERY ACTIVE so we think he's just burning off the weight so fast. Our doctor isn't that concerned and honestly, I'm not either. Hope this helps!

Hello Gwen!

Yes, it can be genetics. My daughter is 15months and 18lbs, I am only 5'1 and the doctors tease me all the time for being small. My daughter is very energetic and has a high metabolism, as soon as her feet hit the floor she is off! She runs laps around the house, laughing and having a blast. As long as your baby doesn't have any medical deficiencies, low blood or digestive issues your lil one is fine!!!!

I think that as long as the drs aren't worried u shouldn't 14 month old is over 25 lbs, but my 3 year old is only 28lbs. the doctors aren't worried and I find it amusing that they are so completly different in their body typed

My friend's daughter is 18 months old and only weighs 18lbs. She is still in an infant car seat. I thought my daughter was small for her age until the 2 of them play together and my daughter looks massive compared to her. My daughter is 22 months and weighs 26lbs. so she's on the small size for her age group. As long as your daughter eats healthy I wouldn't worry about it. She's about to become very active with walking and running.

my son is 20 pounds at 17 months. my dr isnt the least bit concerned as his father is 6'2 and 145 pounds. i'm also about 5'3 and 120 pounds. my sister is 5'2 and 95 pounds. our families are small people so thats where he gets it from. as long as your baby is eating i wouldnt be concerned. if you are bring it up to your dr. we were concerned so we brought it up to our dr and he said there's nothin to worry about
