My son was 8.14 when he was born & I tried breastfeeding but it was wayyy too much on my body since I lost so much blood and I was already anemic to begin with so I gave him a bottle when he was 3wks but it doesn't seem to get him full at all.. So I started putting cereal about 2wks ago and he's doing fine with it other than not pooping everyday but when he does he isn't constipated or straining so is it really all that bad ?

My baby was 9, 1.
I did cereal after a month. She will snack all day on cereal like cheeioes, and does eat three meals a day. She does get full. It will get better. Give it time. Look me up on Facebook if you need advice. Leslie weimer

You shouldn't be giving your baby cereal!! For one thing, his tummy isn't ready. He can't digest solid foods properly yet and you could potentially doing him harm. Secondly, he needs the nutrients in his formula. If he is hungry, he needs more formula, not cereal because that doesn't have what he needs for his development (including his brain development). Finally, you never, EVER put cereal in a bottle, as this can potentially cause a choking hazard.

Yes because he is not getting the nutrition he needs. Babies are hungry a lot of the time and are eating a lot....at 2 months most babies are eating about every 2-3 hours. When they go through growth spurts they will eat more often. Their body needs the milk and the nutrition the milk brings. Cereal has pretty much no nutritional value. It is more for texture and a child learning how to use the spoon. Not getting the right amount of nutrition affects your child growth and brain development. So even though you can't see any harm in it it is actually harming him because it is not giving him the right amount of nutrition that his body needs.

An FYI my daughter was born at 9 pounds 1 ounce. She would nurse every hour around the clock for the first 2 months of her life. At 3 months she went to nursing every 2-3 hours. She did not start cereal until almost 5 months old.
