another thing that you could try... I just bought my son a sticker chart. Everytime he listens or shares he gets a sticker. That has worked wonders for us. Good Luck.

I sucked my thumb til I was almost 12 but I had to get braces. I had the medal piece formally noted too but they wouldn't give it to me until I stopped. The dentist suggested that at bed time I where socks taped around my wrists so I couldn't suck...and out of all the thing my mother tried that worked....and then you jsut have to keep on her during the day....

Oh dear i'm 23 and i still catch myself sucking my thumb when i'm knackered. My mam tried alsorts to try and stop me, that horrible nail varnish stuff doesn't work cuz the horrible taste goes away after a couple of sucks, she made me wear gloves for bed which i just took off. i kind of just grew out of it and i didn't do it in public or anything from my early teens. Good Luck though!

why do you want her to stop? wait until she is older and you can reason with her. or make it a challenge- have friends and family pledge her money to quit and if she does she gets to pick out something to buy with the money she earned. My husband's mom did this for him and it worked beautifully. he was five or six.

I sucked my fingers (the pointer fingers, not thumbs) until I was 16....wow I can't believe I just admitted that in public. My mother tried everything from gross tasting nail polish to taping gloves on my hands. When I was little she had all my teachers telling me to take my fingers out of my mouth, which did work for sucking at school. I would be embarrassed in front of the others kids. Most of the time I didn't even know I was sucking them, it had become such a habit. I know it sounds mean to make fun of your kid, but it just might work.

What finally worked for me ( to stop the sucking ALL the time) was a little metal apparatus that was place in my mouth before I had my braces (braces due to years of finger sucking) and it took up so much space in my mouth I had no room for my fingers.

I used to suck my thumb when I was a child. Only I sucked my thumb until I was about 5. My Grandmother started to put bandaids on my thumbs when I would go to bed (I only did it to go to sleep) I stopped sucking my thumb within a week. I don't know if this would work for your Daughter, but you could try .
