I know for some Astrology is just eye-roll worthy, but when I was an infant my first word was "up". I also had an infatuation for climbing up the stairs of my apartment building once I learned how to crawl. Turns out I'm a Gemini, which is an Air sign, along with Libra and Aquarius. Air signs tend to be higher-reaching, intelligent and curious. I wonder if any of your children were born under these zodiac signs?

Yes. I guess and the more you associate the phrase "I want" to go along with it and every other single syllable command request than it is easier to learn. I was told by my home visitor it is the rythem - but noone thinks it is true (untill they see it) the proof is in the pudding. - Mine is VERY comprehensive... but it is all about how often YOU say things ro her keep talking and showing her things yoou are doing great!

Thanks everyone! She says the word up when she is laying in bed in the morning after she wakes up. I'm not sure if she knows the meaning, but I thought it was cute that she says it. She learned it from a video she watches that sings about the difference between up and down, and it says up a lot in the video. She has also said ma ma, ba ba, and da da. All by the age of 7 months! She only says ma ma when she is upset. She'll say ba ba when she is holding her bottle looking at it or when she is upset and wants her bottle she will say it. She does babble these words all together too when she is playing, but I think she knows meaning to some of the words she says.

by six months my daughter was using little words to convey her wants or needs. "up" was definitely one of them, as was ma and da. If you regularly say the word up when you pick her up, then she may very well have learned that word. OR she could even just be exploring with sounds and came up with "up" If you heard her say it and picked her up and continue to do that, she will learn the meaning of the word, too. :-))

absolutely. we always said "hey Baby" when we would walk by her. around 6 months she lookes at me and "Hey". now she is 10 months and says. mama, daddy, get it, doogie, kitty, and ofcourse the newest word is "No". work with her, read, play games. seems like she is one smart baby!!

I don't think it's very common but my 5 month old daughter screams mama when she's upset and crying. I heard if you read to them since there born they start to talk early.

I don't think its "common" for 6 month olds to say words at all... pretty cool though! Does she say it in context (like, when she wants you to pick her up) or just babbling?
