there are a couple conditions that can make it look like a chip, not it may not be. One is fusion the other is gemination. Gemination is like a conjoined twin but in a tooth sense. It is one tooth bud that nearly split into two but does not; so it looks just like that, one tooth but a seam at the mid point. Baby would still have the three other front teeth. Fusion is where two tooth buds have joined and formed one tooth, but still looks like one tooth with a chip or seam in the middle. But with this the baby will only have two other front teeth because the third and fourth are fused. Make sense?? But more than likely it is just a chip in the tooth, these conditions are relatively rare. And, yes, I am a dentist. Hope that helps.

If it is wider than a normal tooth it may very well be one of those previous conditions I mentioned. It would really kind of look like two small teeth stuck together. The only way to tell is to have an x-ray of her front teeth and see what is there. My son was born with a tooth and we had an x-ray taken to make sure it was his baby tooth and not an extra tooth. It was his baby tooth. The x-ray is easy to get and it may be something your dentist will want to keep an eye one. It will likely not affect the permanent teeth behind it, but if it were my baby I would get it checked out by a pediatric dentist. Or your regular dentist, if they are comfortable with babies. We see babies all the time, but some dentist wont see them until they are three. But you can get a referral to a pedodontist. Good luck!

thanks for the help, i was thinking it was two teeth and not just one because the chip is pretty deep, and like i said she didnt chip it, it grew in that way. At a closer observation i noticed it is one tooth but is larger then her other front tooth, now she is only 9 months so they are her baby teeth but i dont want to have to worry about her teeth not being straight

My middle son has chipped both of his front teeth. My doc said it was okay as long as they are baby teeth and they are not chipped so far that nerves are exposed.
