My son (2 1/2) won't go to the potty

My daughter (31/2) was very easy to potty train. She hasn't worn a pull-up in 11 months. My son is a different story. He knows when he needs to go, and immediately he wants his diaper changed. I've tried having him sit next to me when I go, asking him every 30 minutes, everything I can think of. I don't want to push him and make him regress, but this is driving me nuts! I know he can do it, he just refuses. Anyone have any suggestions? Would big boy underwear force him to go to the potty?

I know this sounds kind of bad but it worked. My cousin had the same problem with her son and she had to resort to leaving him in his dirty diaper for awhile and let him scream that he was wet or pooped. After a few days of leaving him in his dirty diaper for a couple of hours he started going on the toilet.

Thank you both so much! He doesn't like sitting in his pee/poop for any amount of time after hes dirtied his diaper, and the last few days (at home) I have been kind of taking my time about getting him changed just so he can REALLY feel the discomfort and when I change him I tell him "when you go to the potty, you stay all clean". I just don't want to scare him aways from doing it, or make him feel pressured, but I KNOW he can do it, he was doing it for a little while then decided he didn't want to.
