My son is a little over 2 years and doesn't say any real words, except "no", "yes", and he counts a little. He understands when I tell him to do things, he just doesn't talk. I actually have a doctor's appointment for him tomorrow to try to figure out what is going on with him not talking more. Boys do learn slower than girls. Sometimes their hearing can throw them off, so they won't speak, and sometimes they need the web of their tongue clipped.

Perfectly normal at his age, to help him you should constntly talk to him, while out shoppng, thngs u see in the street,u might feel like an idiot, but ur really helping him learn to speak!! and read lots of books!!

When I went to my son's one year check-up, his doctor said that at this age, language skills are measured not by how many words your son can say, but rather how much he can understand when you say things. e.g. Does he know what 'bath time' means? Can he identify his dad when you ask him 'Where's dad?' Things like that. If he's able to follow simple instructions and seems to understand most of what you're saying, then I wouldn't worry. Also, if he's your first child, you probably know exactly what he wants when he points at things, so he doesn't really need to use words as much now. He'll get it though. Just be patient and remember that, like Michelle said, each child develops at a different pace. Before you know it, he'll be talking your ear off and you'll be remembering 'brrs' with fondness : )

hey i had the same problems u have with my son...i was a very worried parent also...with time it soon came but i dont think it would be where its at today with out the program called 1steps....1steps deals with kids that dont speak or has slow developmentable skills.the best thing about it is they come and give your child a one on one evaluation with u there, it can be at your own house, you don't have to do it at someone elses...they also go to your daycare too..even better.they help with speech threw playing with them on the floor with toys...and interacting with them. it is great it you are interested all you have to do is ask your doctor about it and he can help you out. they only work with them till they are three so dont wait to long.my son is 2 1/2 and he didnt start talking till he was about 1 1/2 almost 2 and now he is doing great. just remember every child developes differently so dont judge your child to anothers.

My daughter will be one this week and she doesn't say real words yet either. She makes lots of sounds like she is trying to say things. I'm not worried yet, I think they just need a little more time to figure out how to put sounds together to make words.
