I never had to hold my son. I just talk to him. Sit beside him and just talk to him. My son is three months old now and he talks back to me :)

When Liam was that age, he went through about a month and a half of fussy nights. Finally I took my moms advice and put a fan in his room. Don't point it at him, but it helps circulate the air and the noise is soothing. Good luck!! And don't worry, it won't last and despite you fears ( they were mine too!) your baby won't get too used to you holding them so snuggle away!!

I would maybe recommend swaddling them until the fall asleep .......it helped with my kids and it also gave them that closeness that they want.

When my son was about that age, that's when I got the swing. He loved it and would sit in it for hours just staring at the mobile. I got the RainForest one that rocks side to side and front to back. And he always like the side to side more. I guess it feels like when you rock them. But thats what worked for me. They are at wal-mart for 99$ but you can find them at a second hand store for much cheeper. Hope it helps.

what i found worked really good for my boys was to sit on the couch and put them, belly down, on my thighs and pat their backs and rock them with my legs. it is not actually holding them, but it works wonders to calm them down. I had twons so most days I had one in my arms and the other on my legs! :)

My son is now 8 months old and too big for his Papasan swing but I swore by it. It allowed my husband and I to get much needed rest as well as allowed Deven to be stimulated when he was awake. The music is soothing and the motion can be controlled.

i always used one of them vibrating seats that you can bounce and if the vibrating par didn't work i would bounce it with my foot or something while i was doing something else or they have the ones that rock if you are always rocking him the one that rocks has the vibrating part too but you can rock it. You could also try the swing this my daughter wasn't crazy about. this is one thing im not crazy about but some parents put their baby in their car seat and rock them in there but most just let them stay in the car seat to sleep and i don't like that my daughter was always sweety whenever i put her in her car seat to go to the store so i guess this is why im not crazy about using the car seat well good luck hope one of these works for you (my fav was the bouncing vibrating seat my daughter loved it and when she sees one she still trys to sit in it and bounce it is so cute b/c she is way too big for it but them things are very stronge)
