I have a shower with my son (14months) every morning and have brushed my teeth infront of him, he always looked curious as to what I was doing.

Then at our last Plunket visit (Plunket is a post natal care in NZ) Dante got his own little tooth brush and tooth paste.

He gets excited when I brush his teeth and tries to eat the bristles.

But I agree with Amber, take him to a dentist.

Oh luv, my son, Damien, just turned four and still fights me. I think it depends on the child as well. I get him different character toothbrushes (Lightning McQueen, Thomas the Tank Engine, Spongebob, etc.) and blue bubblegum flavoured toothpaste. I start off letting him brush and then I do a final touch up when he's done because that way he's learning for himself, and I know for sure that his teeth are getting cleaned. He will brush as much as he can and then he knows that he has to go "AAHHH" and "NNNNN" so I can brush his teeth. I've also explained that he has to brush so he doesn't get mouth boo-boos, but he doesn't much care.

Have you thought about giving him the toothbrush & letting him brush his own teeth? My 13month old wouldn't allow me to brush her teeth either. But If I let her hold the tooth brush, her teeth get brushed & everyone is happy.

Number one, don't feel like you are the only one because nearly every little one I know hates brushing their teeth and makes sure you know it! However, it's definitely important to get them brushed and brushing them well probably requires your help. What I used to do with my niece was I would brush her teeth while she brushed mine. It was the only thing that ever worked for her.

We have a singing thomas the train tooth brush and yummy tooth paste. My son just turned two and stoped fighting so much, maybe there is hope for less fighting in a few months.

Just tell your son that you need to brush his teeth so he doesn't get any owies in his mouth and he won't have to go see the dentist to get them fixed. If that fails take him to a pediatric dentist so they can try to show him that brushing his teeth is good and it is ok for mommy to help him. See if that helps

We made up a silly song and I make silly faces at him to make mine forget what we are doing. It helps that my sons older sister does it with him, but if there isn't another sibling to distract or show try making up a song. Might help!
