give him some grown up toys that you won't mind him having like empty pill bottles, a remote, or an old cell phone. pots and pans always work when i'm cooking. or if he like ripping stuff, give him some bills or newspaper!
my daughter whines alot still and she's 2! I always tell her to TALK not whine and if she keeps it up i hvae to distract her with something.

Quoting Camille:

Sometimes you can't do much else other than hold them, maybe there's something wrong? Is he like that all the time? My little girl is the same age and she can be pretty whiny sometimes. She tends to be more whiny when she's teething or if she's tired. I know her grandfather says when she gets like that he takes the bags of toys and blocks he has a dumps em out all over the floor and he doesn't hear from her for a good half hour lol.

Well he has had 4 teeth pop up with no complaint from him. He prettey much is like this all day. And he wants to play with everything but his toys!. I will take him to his room and put him in front of his toys ans play with him a little to get him interested but it doesnt last long. All he wants to do when I'm sitting on the ground with him is climb all over me. And I try resding to him but it just keeps taking the book from me.

First off...he is at that age! Second, I think as long as you are taking time out for him to insure him you there for him and love him, it will get better and easier for you both. I do believe he is old enough to start learning that Mommy has things to get done. But it will take time and a dump truck of patience. This is a very difficult age. The independence is kicking in but they are still babies. I hope it gets easier for you...quickly!
