I have nursed my boy for 6 months and have decided to switch to formula only. I need to know how long it will take to where you don't produce milk anymore. Also do I still have to pump even though I am only doing formula. The only reason I have switched to formula because I hoping I will be getting a job soon and will be too stressed out to nurse therfore not producing enough milk for my little man. Yes he is on solid foods but you still have to provide him with those nutrients. Please help my ladies.

I had to put my wee girl on formula at 6 weeks old and i found the day after i stopped feeding her was the worst and most painful but my midwife told me to just express some out when i have a shower and i found after i did that they were fine. I stopped producing milk completly after about a mnth

24-32 ounces I would guess, but some can be mixed in with food if necessary. If you pump ONLY to release, it should take 2 days-2 weeks to 'dry' up. Also though since breastmilk is digested so quickly compared to formula, I would pump for as long as you can (do not offer breast) to store more milk and to help with pooping issues. That or have some peaches or prunes ready to go! =) LOL. And even if you only do half and half bottles, he is still getting the breast, which is best. Just a thought! Good Luck Elise!

For each child it took me a few weeks to stop producing. The best way is to wean him off or it may end up painful for you, it takes longer that way but it will help your body to slow down milk production instead of winding up with very large breasts.

Slowly switch him per meal, starting off with the first bf of the day. Mostly you want to make it so there are longer periods of time between each feeding but if you take out the ones where your body has the extra time to produce then it will make less since he is drinking less.

did any of you after stopped nursing have some lumps? I don't have an electric pump but when i did i had to rent it. do i need to rent again since it has more power and suction than a handheld pump?
