Hi all, my baby son is 6 weeks old now, he was 8lb 13 when he was born(v big) and already takes 6 ounces. he will cry for this and get quite frustrated every 2 and a half hours and i thought babies were really supposed to feed every 4 hrs...i have tried hungrier baby milk with midwife recommendation but i found he was sickin it up so have gone bk to normal newborn milk, he isnt sick on that but what can i do to make he go longer between feeds? is it normal for him to want his feed this often? opinons appreciated.

My son is a little over 5 months old and still eats every 2,3, or 4 hours. I think it's pretty normal. And he's eating solids, and still eats that frequent.

i was feeding my daughter every 2 to 2 1/2 hours for the first few months. and she is a healthy two and a half year old. if you don't want to do that try and see if he will want a binky. pretty soon you'll be able to feed baby food so try feeding every 2 1/2 hours.

Eating every two and half hours seems pretty normal to me at that age. He could be going through a growth spurt or something and he might start eating with longer periods in between in a few weeks.

If you really want to get him to wait longer, you might try fixing eight ounces so he eats more at a time and then holding him off with a pacifier, or the swing, or playing with him, until three hours between feedings. THen once you get to three hours between, start making him wait three and a half hours.

Just a thought, it might work, but he is pretty young still and it does not seem odd that he wants to eat so often.

Warmest wishes!

every child is different there is no need to worry if he is hungry more often than recommended....

you could also try a dummy if you think that he is not acctually hungry...

he may just need settled
