Hi everyone, i'm new to the site and was hoping to get some advice from you all. I'm 24 and gave birth to my son via emergency c-section April 7th. My problem is, my periods have still not returned back to 'normal' after 6 months. I'm a little worried as there were post partum complications (there was quite a bit of placenta left behind, which caused a big infection and haemorrhaging and i also had a problem with a blood vessel after the c section, which was later cauterised) All is fine now, the op i had to remove the afterbirth was a success but this period business is worrying me, esp as i was told things would be more regular by now by friends and family. I had my first cycle over a month ago, but it lasted two days and was very light (usually, i bleed for 7 days at least and am very heavy, sorry, tmi!) I've had so signs of this month's period coming yet, so i'm hoping i don't go another few months without one! I saw my family doc who told me not to worry, that things will go back to normal eventually, which i know is right, but i guess i was hoping that one of you guys could tell me what you think or how long it took for your cycle to get back to normal? I'd be really grateful. Thank you in advance. Jade, x

Try not to stress over this, it could take a little while before your body gets back to a normal cycle. But, since you did have one period, you could also be pregnant.
I think every woman deals with a little uncertainty when it comes to periods after childbirth, especially the first. I got my period back after about 5 months, and it was very light at first. I was worried, because what I read said it would be very heavy at first and maybe last longer. Not for me, it was light and lasted only a few days. Also, my cycle started out being about 35 days, I think. It slowly got shorter, and by 13 months postpartum, my cycle was back to 28 days (normal) and I got pregnant. I did have a miscarriage and then went on to get pregnant the very next month. I am now 8 months pregnant with my second baby. My daughter is 21 months old.
I think it's so hard to not know what's going on inside your body. I remember just wanting someone to tell me exactly what will happen and when!

I also had emergency c section and im around you age also :) My daughter is 2yrs old now and it took at least year for me to get regular periods. Some times it would be a 5 week gap or 3 week and every cycle was different. We all have different experiences but from most mummies its usual to have irregular periods for quite sometime. I still now sometimes dnt feel the pain of period comingon, I guess because after c section I have lost some nerve feeling in my lower stomach. Hope this helps :)

Thank you very much for replying :) That helps alot. Stephanie i'm definitely not pregnant again haha, i'm 100% sure of that. I guess i will just have to wait a while for things to get back to normal as you say Natalie and stop worrying about nothing! :) Thank you both! Xx
