We put our son to bed with his paci, and whenever it falls out he wakes up crying. He has also been breaking free of his swaddle multiple times a night, which is also waking him up. I have to go in an reswaddle him only to be up with him ten minutes later to put his paci in his mouth. And then another ten minutes after that to reswaddle again. He is four months old. What I'm wondering is, is it okay to let him just cry it out? Should I continue to replace the paci for him? (This seems like it could become a habit, and I don't want to be getting up every half hour in the night for the next year) Should I continue to reswaddle him? How long is it okay for him to cry before I go in to fix whichever it may be that is waking him up?

Well, the reason we still swaddle is because he is all over the place when he sleeps. I'll put him to bed with his head at one end of the crib, and he will end up at the complete opposite end. He hits himself in the face, and and his legs gets stuck between the rungs on the crib, he pinches his face, and pokes himself in the eye. Is that normal activity? Because if so, I will definately try to put him to bed without swaddling. I have just been concerned that he is going to hurt himself.

By four months you could probably try not swaddling him at all - if he keeps breaking free of it he probably doesn't need it anymore as it is obviously too restrictive for him. I only swaddled both of mine for the first month or so, as it was a feeling of security for them. Once they are used to being out in the open, and moving around a lot more, it's not really necessary. By four months they don't really sleep in the foetal position anymore, as they like to be able to stretch out and this would be what's making him break free of it. Perhaps try a sleeping bag instead, as it still fully encloses him without restricting movement.

We have just been using a blanket. I have been looking for the swaddle blankets at our local walmart, but they havent had his size. I keep looking though. They have to restock sometime. :)

Also what do you use to swaddle him? Do you have one of those Velcro swaddlers? They're so much better and children aren't as able to get out of them during the night.

Comtinue to reswaddle him but I wouldn't continue to put his paci in his mouth,he doesnt need it and he will go back to sleep soon without it you don't have to reswaddle him if you don't want to it isn't going to hurt him any,he isn't going to love you any less and all will be okay, let him cry it out for a little bit not as long as you would for a 3 or so yr old just see if he will fall back to sleep after 5 or ten minutes.also maybe saddle him a bit tighter? Not too tight just so he won't break free of it.

Good luck,hope I helped.
