I was just wondering how many mothers on here do the pagent thing? And I was also trying to get an idea of what everyone thinks about the whole thing in general.

I think its just wrong.
If your child can say "hey mom I want to do a pagent" then maybe I would try a low key, no makeup, no bikini, no hooker dancing one.
but putting small kids in them is only for Mommy to show off and I think thats disgusting, how can a pagent be good for a 5 month old?
try going to the park.

I think the low key pageants are just fine. I was in one when i was 13 months old and i took second place.. It's kinda neat to look at the trophy and pictures from the event. My daughter just turned one and i'm thinking about looking for local pageants to put her in. I would never spend a fortune on a dress or put tons of makeup on my daughter but like many others have said, they're not all like that. And she may not really know what's going on right now but will feel good later on looking back at the pictures and ribbons and stuff... I know i did.

hate them! its just my opinion, but i would never enter my kids in one, just to show them off. i know my daughter is beautiful, and funny, and all around wonderful, and i dont need someone else to tell me whether shes better than other kids... i already know she is! lol. i know not all pageants are like the ones of tv, but have you ever seen toddlers and tiaras on tlc? its completely ridiculous.

I was a photographer at the mall for a few years. Pageant kids would come in all the time dressed up with the grown up hair and make up. Most of the kids loved it and were total hams but some kids did not enjoy it and I was sad for them. Some kids can't handle that kind of attention. You really have to know your kids. My stepdaughter would HATE doing something like this but my sister's little girl would LOVE it a little too much. You just have to know your child's limits like any activity.

We have a local pagent that only requires a party dress for little girls, NO MAKEUP (yay!) My daughter is four and wanted to do it last year but we were out of town. She's been mentioning it all year so I'm really thinking of letting her do it. I'm against the ones where you have to deck them out like little made up women, but I think that a low key one where they give out ribbons for sweetest smile, or cutest button nose are ok. I think that they need to already understand that it's just for fun and that not everyone can win everything and no matter the outcome they're STILL the shining star in your life and the lives of many others. :)

I would say no to pageants, maybe contests or competitions of a more natural sort, but nothing requiring makeup and preventing your child from having a life. Kids need to have time to play outside and they need to be able to scrape their knees on occasion haha.

i think pagents are a good thing for lil babies...i just recently put my almost 5 month old daughter in a relay for life pagent to help raise money.. and would so put her in another one... its a good bonding experince...not all pagents make you put makeup on your child...or dance around like a hooker...

I personally do not like them, why would anyone want their little girl to dress up like an adult, put tons of make up on that distorts them, and get up on a stage dancing and shaking their booties like a hooker.... But this is just my oppinion

Also none of the pagents that I put my son in will not let the children under 12 wear make up!! Not all pagents are like the pagent on the tv. The tv pagents give all the small pagents bad reputations.... If you havent noticed what people have said already... Around here if you child is under 12 and wearning make up you get disqualified because they look for natural beauty!!

I hate the pagents, the makeup, the expensive clothes, bikinis, talent competitions... these are CHILDREN. And a lot of times parents are making their children do it regardless of if they like it or not. I can understand if an older child asks to do one and the parents lets them try it out, but I hate how much we are asking our children to grow up, and JUDGING them on it!!

My son is 14 months old and he is going to be in his 5th pagent this weekend! I think its a fun thing to do with you children because they get to show there personalitys! He has Won 2 and came in 1st runner up 2 times as well! But I think later when he gets to see his crowns he will say wow I got that I must be really pritty!! I loved doing it as a kid even though my mom didnt like me doing them. I grew up with no confidence because kids picked on me and the first pagent I done I had so much fun and you gain wondeful friends along the way!!! It never hurts to try something new! I would say give it a try if you dont like it you dont have to do it again at least you will know that you gave it a chance and wont wonder what it would be like later!! And by the way your boys are amazingly beautiful!!! They would be sure to win any pagent you put them in!!!

I think it is ok to do the county fair pageants, but to make a toddler look to old is ridiculous.

personally it freaks me out. To me it's like an open door for perverts to look at your kid. it sounds extreme, but there are a lot of sick people out in the world, and I don't want to give any of them the chance to watch my kid.

I love the pageants. My daughter is currently entered into her first, she's only 8ths. I think it's a self esteem booster. But if she happens 2 not like it as she gets older I won't make her do it

I personally do not like pageants for younger kids. Little kids don't need make up and someone telling them that they aren't pretty enough or talented enough to win a trophy.
