I have had the Mirena IUD put in today, and am suffering from some wicked cramps and back pain. It was extemeIy painful having it being put in and I was even nausious for awhile afterwards. I am wondering if anyone else has had this and what they did about it.

I did when I got mine put in over a year ago. It is normal and should go away soon. If it continues then call your dr who put it it. it may have slipped or something. I felt like I was giving birth again when I was getting mine put in. Ugh

I got the mirena and I hated it. I would cramp every month, get bad periods, started losing my hair, got pre-pregnancy symptoms. Luckily I found out I wasnt the only onw going through that. Mirena actually has a class action lawsuit being put on them.

The part that sucks is I just found out I am actually pregnant. And im on the mirena.

I had the same symptoms and thought it was just cause i have ovary problems... I went back for my 4 week check and they couldnt find the IUD, thye called it a misplaced IUD which only happens to one in a few hundred... which i was one of them lol. They had to do emergency surgery cause what had happened was the end of it is pointy and it had poked a hole thru my uterus and went thru and was just floating around by my bowels, i was lucky they caught it when they did, so i cannot have one again due to my uterus is titled to far!!! hope this does not happen to u and u get better!!!!

Hi. I had the same thing and I Hate to tell you this, but it lasted for a good two weeks. I was so nervous with it and it hurt going in. But honestly, I got mine in this last Sept and after that two weeks of cramps and extreme bloating, I forget its there. And I love it. I do have irregular periods now. For example, last month I spotted for one day and the month before that maybe two days. Then this past week I got a full blown period for the entire week! Its weird, but I do like that it is so effective. Hang in there because once that initial two weeks was up for me, I felt better. But I remember, they were really rough. So I think that is normal. If it would get severe or unbearable though, call your obgyn for a check up. Even if its just for reassurance. Hope that helped!

OH yeah... It sucks getting it in, and a lot of people complain of different symptoms like spotting for the first few months, but I got mine in Oct. 2008 and I LOVE it!!! After the first two months I stopped having periods completely! I recommend the Mirena to anyone I can! The first couple of days I just made my fiance baby me a little bit lol, did the normal things I used to do for cramps, and it went away on its own.

Go to you GYN!! An aquaintance of mine got the IUD inserted and a week later she was having horrible pains. I forget what exactly happened, but she had a horrible reaction to the IUD. If you have the same thing she had, You need to get it taken out right away! She had a close encounter with death becasue of it...

i had the same problem, the long bleeding afterwards was terrible, but now just over a year later everything is well settled and i very rarely get a period, and best of all no pregnancy, which is more than can be said when i was on the pill :)

Heather, I would go to the doctors and ask them to shorten the strings. They can make them so that the only time you can feel it is if you were to actually insert a finger in. I have had mine in for about 7 months now and absolutly love it. You may also have a yeast infection. I dont think your IUD is in wrong, but hey im not a doctor either..lol. Go get it checked for your own reassurance.

I have and IUD also, it isn't the Mirena, but close. I think the difference between that one and then one I have is that mine is copper (I think the Mirena is plastic or something) and mine is good for up to ten years (I think Mirena is a five year IUD). Anyways, I agree- it hurt like hell getting it put in, and the pain didn't stop there. I have had mine for about 7 months now, and still feel internal pain frequently, mostly while sitting down. My doctor says it could be the IUD poking me inside, and that's pretty much what it feels like. I have not had a period whatsoever, but I am breastfeeding so that could have a lot to do with it. I don't know about these IUD things, if my pain persists and/or gets worse, I might just get it taken out and get that tiny bar insert thing in my arm instead... :/

i had the cramps for a few days and bleeding for a week or so but I have had mine for a month or so now and feel perfectly fine. my sister in law has the same thing and she has very painful periods but she was also like that at a young age and had to take birth control to help with it.

In the pamphlet they are supposed to give you before you get the Mirena IUD, it says that you will either bleed for a long time, bleed for a little time (like your normal period) or you wont bleed at all. Or you could start out bleeding, and over time it will just stop all together.

As for the cramps....I guess I agree with PP who said to go have it checked. Having it placed can cause cramping and a little discomfort (what i experienced for a few days afterwards) but it shouldn't be excrutiatingly painful.

After a while, I stopped noticing mine, and I actually am still getting my monthly period...strangely enough. I just dont get the really bad cramps that I used to get with it. It's kinda nice. =)

I had the cramps as well. It was tough to get it. Had it placed, and then had an internal ultrasuond and then had to have it moved around into the right spot because it wasn't it correctly. Maybe check with them that it has been placed properly because of the pains you are having. My pains went away, and we are doing well 2 months later.

One more thing, if they didn't tell you about the bleeding, I will. I was taken by shock when I was bleeding forever. My husband finally made me call and ask if something may be wrong - they just decided not to tell me that I could bleed for months straight, and you bet I have.

Hope it helps!
