Pediatrician V.S. Family Practice Doctor? I cant decide which is best for my baby.

Which is better to take your baby to? The clinic I usually go to does not have pediatricians, but there is a special clinic in town for childrens practice that does have pediatricians. So should I take the baby to the clinc I go to or start them out at a specialized one?

i chose a family doctor who has a lot of experiance with babies...she has many babies/young children as a part of her practice and she always books us extra time when it's a visit for baby. i like the idea of my son being able to grow up with her and having her as an adult if he so's nice to know that his dr will know all of his history from birth. however, she makes it very clear that she will not hesitate to refer us to a pedi if she feels like she's not sure what's going on or if we feel like we would like a second opinion on something (which has never come up...she's always right on the mark with any issue that has come up with him). good luck in your decision!

we chose our family doctor because my husbands family has been seeing the same doctor for years and years and my father in law has a lot of health issues. we wanted our sons doctor to be very familiar with our family medical history, should a complication with our son ever arise.

I think that its whatever you are the most comfortable with. I voted on the peditrician for my son. His pedi is my OB's husband and he is wonderful!!! I was going to have my son go to my previous doctor (which is a family practice) but after meeting with the pedi, I had made my decision. I also feel more comfortable with the pedi due to the fact that he's all about kids!! Hope that helps.

I would choose the pediatrician also, they are more used to moms asking tons of questions and worring about everything! They also are used to crying babies all the time so they may be better at soothing them.

I agree with Jenna, a Pediatrician would be the best place to start because other doctors know about Some of the same stuff and can help with kids BUT they probably don't have a lot of child patients so when it comes to having problems whether it be bathroom or teething they will know less about treatments for kids. My kids FINALLY have a great doctor and they are for new born to 18 so they are covered for a while. :) Good luck with one

My opinion would be to stick with a Pediatrician, at least for the first 2 years. Just to be sure all the shots and stages are identified. If the doctor is a pediatrician, than that is their main concern, makes it easier for them to narrow in on children's issues, especially those that are hard to figure out. But good luck!!
