phantom pregnancy or real?

hi, im 21 and i have a wondeful toddler, i am now convinced im carrying his sibling but keep getting negative results.
i got the bar removed on the 28th april 5 months ago and have had regular periods since, all within 35 day intervals, my last period was on the 5th august and i had uprotected sex on the 9th, 20th and 21st (time of ovalation) my period was due on the 31st august now 17 days late iv taken 5 home tests and 2 doctor tests, im suffering from extreme exhaustion, increased smell, very emotional, mood swings, headaces, icreased trips to the loo , lower back pain, morning sickness.
i should be 6 weeks gone as the count from the first day from your last period, i generally feel pregnant but im getting so many negative results. my last urine test yesterday was negative resulting in the doctor wanting me to go on the pill to kick start a period, she blamed it on the bar that i had in my arm but that was taken out 5 months ago and i had normal periods every month on time since so i dont understand how i could miss a period & experience all these symptoms and have had uprotected sex and not be pregnant?
if i had got my period on the 31st aug my next one would be due on the 27th sept i tink im going to wait until after that week goes by and stil no period and demand a scan. i feel i need to see if there is actual life inside me rather than depend on a stick my body is sayn yes or could it be a phantom pregnancy has this happened to anyone else id much appreciate your story

The only certain result is a positive result (unless your on certain fertility treatments), a negative results does not neccessarily mean that you're not pregnant, it coud just mean you have hormone levels too low to cause the positive result, which is actually quite normal. Did your doctor do a blood test? That can be more sensitive and accurate, but not always, again in this case, negative could just mean it's not being picked up on. My cousin went nearly 3 months pregnant with no positive results from urine or blood tests, this could be your case. Although phantom pregnancies can and do happen, I would try to get the ultrasound. Switch doctors and/or get a second opinion if you have to. Going on the pill if you are pregnant can be harmful to the baby. Best of luck!

It really could be all in your head even if you're not trying. I did this after I went to the ER for a miscarriage. The blood test said I was pregnant but a sonogram showed nothing. I bled for a few days and then it stopped and I had normal periods but I swear I thought I still was pregnant. It hurt to sit forward, to sleep on my belly and to wear tight pants. Then I took a home pregnancy test 2 1/2 months after the ER visit and got a negative result. By that night all my 'symptoms' were gone. Even the bloating and I fit my jeans again. ♥

i just had a baby in february... i took multiple pregnancy tests over an extended period of time and NEVER got a positive test. i never in my life had anything close to a normal period so i couldn't use that as a reference. i pretty much just started living like i was pregnant as a precautionary and after a certain amount of time i KNEW i was pregnant. i didnt need a positive from a test. after about 3 and a half months i just called and demanded an ultrasound. my doctor told me, like jodi said, it was probably just because my hormone levels were not high enough.

Here our the questions you must ask yourself before anything else... When you were pregnant with your toddler how long did it take to find out and how far along were you? Did you have any symptoms that stood out like with your 1st child? Are you showing? Then talk to an ob/gyn to set up an appointment and tell her you plan on getting pregnant (even if your are) and see what she says.... Blood test is the most accurate and just because you have a negative today dosen't mean your not pregnant it could mean your early in the game so wait alittle. Sometimes people can lose along of hormones with their 1st and it might not show up as you being pregnant. But advise is don't take anyone's advise before a doctor all pregnancies are different rely on your gut feelings and doctors advise (ob/gyn).

may be you want to be pregnant so much that this has delayed your period! you need to relax and not rush things! i was convinced before i got preg with my eldest that because i had a termination when i was younger that i woulnt be able to get pregnant as it was some sort of punishment and this in turn delayed quite a few periods also cause every month i was convinced i was preg whn i actually wasnt! in the end i said to myself im going to concentrate on what i have around me and if it happens it happens and it did when i least expected it! im not saying i am right but it could be a possibility i think you need to relax and your period will come! if not returned to normal in a month or 2 do another test but i do thnk this may be the reason, i also convinced myself i was having morning sickness when i wasnt1 good luck x

@Krystal Oh ok, I just thought that maybe I wanted a baby so much that I was holding on extra hard. Thanks ♥

there is a medical condition that is a temporay disorder where you have all the signs of pregnancy but your not pregnant even in some rare cases a positive result when ur not . but on the other hand you could have a bigger issue going on , it may not be that ur pregnant maybe a cyst or fibroid , even std's can delay periods , i would check with a doctor asap .

@ Bo Lynn - My friend had a miscarriage not too long ago and she said she experienced everything you did. She talked to her doctor about it and they told her that it was just because her body hadn't accepted the miscarriage yet. I also strongly believe what's in your head affects certain areas of your life - it's happened to me personally.

the most common mistake is taking tests at the wrong time. be sure to take them first pee of the morning when hormones are most concentrated.

Hormone levels increase the further into your pregnancy. It's also best to take your urine tests first thing in the morning as levels are higher at that point. Trust your body and your mind. Treat your body as though you are pregnant just in case. Good luck!

I would just go to the ER and have them to do a sonogram and a transvaginal ultrasound they way the answer you get is 100%

Just be careful. Trust your body. My sister-in-law has had two miscarriages because she was unaware of the pregnancies. She's not regular with her flow, but she felt all the signs. The at-home tests and doctor's tests came back negative both times but she ended up in the ER anyway. They have to do blood tests on her to check for pregnancy.
