My son is 7 months old and has three doctors, and not one of them has been able to really help with his problems. I am hoping that someone here will have heard of something like it, or experienced it and can give me some guidance.

He has GERD pretty bad, had it since he was born. At around 3 months of age he devolped constipation (had it ever since). For the past two weeks where ever the poop touches his skin it bleeds, has happened in the past before but now it's all the time. He has had leukocytopenia (low white blood cell count) on three separate occations with no sign of infection. He also has a thickened bladder wall (seen on ultrasound yesterday).

He is currently on ranitidine for the GERD. He is on Increasing amounts of Milk of Magnesia for the constipation (new dose works for couple of days, then back to solid turds have to increase amount) He is on Neocate formula (prescription hypoallergenic formula). We're putting Desitin, butt paste, A&D, and vasoline on his butt all to try and help.

If you know of ANYTHING that might help please write.

I looked up GERD so now I know what yu are taking about. We called it reflux. My daughter had it bad too, but not as bad as what yours has. We used enfamil ar. since it had the rice starch mixed in. But she still had the spit up. She finally out grew it. But we used meds and when we ran out the dr asked if we saw a difference. There was no difference so we took her off it. But I was told the meds are to prevent heartburn. And she wasnt fussy or upset so there was no need for it. Could it be the meds that he is allergic to that is causing the bleeding. As for the conctipation have you tried a bottle of water with corn syrup(karo). She had constipation bad too so our dr told us to mix water and 1tbsp or corn syrup. It worked great. I only gave her one bottle a day. Good luck. Hope this can help a little.

I know how difficult this must be for you. It's never easy to see your children sick. First I want to talk about the leukocytopenia you said he's popped up with in the past. Does he have a pediatric hematologist/oncologist? Have you or the baby's father ever had a history of autoimmune disease of any kind in your families? I was diagnosed with chronic idiopathic severe neutropenia when I was 15. One of the things that really stuck out to me with your son's history is the fact that he gets open sores easily. That can be a sign of a lowered immune system. I would suggest he be tested for lupus. If it's possible (I don't know if you can with a child this young) I would have a bone marrow biopsy done. Look into auto-immune causing factors and have his kidney functions checked. These symptoms sound like a part of a bigger picture to me.

Auto-immune disease can be easily managed with the right medications and precautions. This is a difficult time for you and your little one. My thoughts and prayers are with you and yours.

So sorry to hear that about your little boy. My son had severe acid reflux and was spitting up like crazy and suffered from mild constipation. I took him to specialist at 3 months and she put him on Prevacid. It did wonders, he stoped spitting up and had better bm's. He is now 13 months and off the medicine. Maybe Prevacid will help your little boy

in england there is a brilliant cream called timodine but you can only get it though the doctor on precription. and over here we use a sugary liquid called lactulose with softens the stools. my friends daughter has really bad constipation and the doctor proscribed her movicol this stimulates the bowls to push it out. i don't know if this is any help as your obviously not from england

I assume he's been tested for a milk protein allergy? My co-worker's daughter's butt was really sensitive and would bleed and then they found out she had an allergy and she swtiched to goat's milk and it was all better. That's all I can offer, I do hope you find some help!!!!
