my baby is almost 4 months old and has always been a very mellow baby.... up until literally 2 days ago. he screams at the top of his lungs and drools a lot... could this be that he is teething? he's not constipated or hungry or wet..... please!!!! any suggestions??? how can i tell if my lil man needs some oragel????

Quoting Heather:

I used the orajel once I think. I use to put the teethers in the freezer and then when they were cold I would let her chew on those....It seemed to help. I know I also got this awesome pacifier from babies r us. It has little bumps on the back of it and it suppose to make the gums feel better. I will try to find the name of it. I know the ones I have are yellow with an orange outline and the other has a green outline. Those helped too. But don't worry it sounds like teething. If you are still worried call your doctor. I've called a couple times just to ask about things that I am worried about. You need to feel better as a mom sometimes.....

Sounds like teething to me. Try orajel, the teething tablets, and my personal favorite is frozen waffles. Swaddling may also help at a time like this as it may help make him feel more secure. He may also be running a slight fever and have an ear ache-all common with teething. I wouldn't give him a fever reducer unless your doctor tells you to, however. I know it's tough! Hang in there, kiddo!

check his gums. if they are kinda puffy, and he screams and jerks away when you touch them, he is likely teething. diaper rash and diarrhea(sp?) are common because the saliva is more acidic when baby is teething. If the gums still feel boney and ridgety, look for other things that might make him upset. good luck! also, check the tempature in the room, my baby screams when its too hot or cold.

If you live in the US try Hyland's Teething Tablets. They are a natural remedy for teething (they don't numb like oragel which calms fears of swallowing a numbing agent). You can get them at any pharmacy or maybe a grocery store. It is in a small box so you may need to ask for help to find it.
