Just put him in underwear, the key is to ask every 30 minutes if he has to go and take him every hour whether he does or not. They are going to have accidents, but Ive found basically pestering my son with asking him if he needs to go he does go more often. Also, Im not sure how most parents do it but my sons school taught him to stand up and pee, my son had trouble with this and I found it makes more of a mess. Have them sit down, my husband is 31yrs old and sits to pee, it keeps the toilet cleaner and you can focus more on going pee then the actualy aiming part. Now for pooping that can get tricky, the best thing I have found is to bribe them, lol. The first 5 times my son poops in the potty he gets a match box car. Usually after a few times of pooping in the potty they realize they dont much like the poop in thier pants. And this may sound gross (and some many say mean) leave him in his poop for a few minutes, poop feels different in underwear then in a diaper, im talking like 3 or 4 mins. Also, when my son has an accident I make him help clean it up and he has to clean himself up, meaning changing his pee clothes and wiping up the floor. Hope this helps.
