You can get pregant very soon after, like within the first 2-3 months; I know people who have.

Breastfeeding should not be used as a form of birth control if you are breastfeeding. There are couples that used it as contraception and wound up pregnant. It's best to just start using protection when you start having sex again which is usually 4-6 weeks after birth.

Well my husband said that he didn't want anymore kids because he already had two before we got married. Well 4 years later I wind up pregnant with his first son. Now my son is almost 5 months and today I just found out that I'm pregnant. Its really possible to become pregnant after childbirth, even unexpectantly. :)

I got pregnant about 7 weeks after giving birth to my first son, so it can happen very quickly. So, use protection if you do not want another one right away!

If not breastfeeding then most women will resume ovulation about 10 weeks after delivery but it is possible to start ovulating even before the 6 week healing period is over. Breastfeeding does not fully protect a women from ovulating either. If you don't want to get pregnant then you need to use birth control again right away.
