Premature babies...

On Saturday, April 25th, my husband, daughter, and myself will be walking in March for Babies at Balboa Park here in San Diego. March for babies is an ongoing fundraising effort by March of Dimes, which does everything possible to improve the health of babies by preventing birth defects, premature birth, and infant mortality. Babies are born prematurely at an alarming rate and research is needed to not only find a way to prevent this from happening, but also to assist those families who have had a premature baby.

When you donate to March for Babies, 77 cents of every dollar is used to support research and programs to promote healthy babies. Some of the ways that the money is used:

Brain- Fighting premature birth. Baby's brains need 9 months to fully develop.

Eyes- Treatments are being developed to fight eye defects.

Heart- New treatments mean better survival rates for the tiniest heart patients.

Heel- Newborn screening: a drop of blood from baby's heel could save her life.

Lungs- Surfactant and nitric oxide therapies save the lives of many premature babies.

Spine- Folic acid education means fewer babies are born with neural tube defects.

Smile- A gene responsible for oral cleft has been discovered and March of Dimes is working on preventions.

Due to the cuurent economy, it has been extremely hard to raise money for a cause that supports the babies of tomorrow, but you can help. Please visit my website at and make a secure donation. Even though times are tough, every little bit helps, and you can use this donation as next years tax writeoff. If you cannot donate but would like to walk, you can sign up on the website as well. If neither of these are an option at this time, please feel free to pass along this information to anyone that you know who might be able to help. With every step you take, you're helping babies begin healthy lives!

What an amazing little is so sad that babies have to struggle, and there is nothing that can be done to stop premature births. Because of children like her, and others that are not so fortunate, I am walking in the March for Babies. Unfortunately my fundraising has not gone too well in these hard economic times. I will definitely be thinking of your baby while we are there!

Thank you! I wish we had a walk for babies here in Oklahoma. My daughter was born 32week. She spent her first 42 days in the hospital. Since then we found out that she has spinal fluid around her brain, VU Reflux, One kidney that may never move or grow to be normal, UTI's for the rest of her life and she is 23 months old and almost 20LBS. She looks like she just turned one. All of this stuff is because of things right before she was born or because she ws so early. But if you ever saw her you never know anythng. Most people don't.
