My 9 year old has allergies pretty bad. He usually takes Zyrtec, but last night his nose was really plugged up too. I have some allergy pills with pseudophedrine in them and it does give dosing info for kids his age. Do you think its okay to give it to him? I've heard such bad things about it, but at the same time he's not a small boy. I just want to give him some relief.

I was reading about pseudophedrine on the American Academy of Pediatrics website. I think that as long as you follow the dosing instructions and make sure that he dosen't take too much too often you should be okay. If he has asthma it could cause an a reaction like shortness of breath. Also if you can find time, look around the web and see if you can find some dosing charts by weight. And if you don't like the things that you read about it then don't give it to him. You can also use those saline nasal drops which will really help loosen it up and those can be made at home using salt and water. Poor bookie!! I hope he feels better. Hope I helped!

i dont know if your insurance has this, but with the military there is an RN oncall helpline and they can answer questions like that for you.

or maybe even calling your dr office would be good! if the dr cant take your call, leave a msg and im sure they will call back ASAP.

I would consult your GP or Health Direct first. Health direct is a part of the hospital system, you ring the hospital and ask to speak to a nurse from health direct - they will put you straight through. It costs you nothing and they are very helpful :)

I would check with someone before you give it to him. Even if you can only get to a drug store, at least they could give you an idea. Good luck and I hope your little man feels better soon!
