This isnt really about my kids. I was just wondering if anyone else is in the same situation as me. Ok. I have been with my "boyfriend" for about 11 years and we just had our fourth baby a couple months ago. We have a 5 yr old boy, 4 yr old boy, 2 yr old boy and a new baby girl. We are high school sweethearts. and I love him with all of my heart. But he is still known as my boyfriend or "baby daddy" which i hate. We have talked about marriage since high school, but I feel as if it is never going to happen for me. I love my kids and the oldest two have come up to me numerous times and asked why I have a different last name than they do. I try to explain but what do you really say to that. Is anyone else in a similar way of life right now feeling as if its never going to happen or just a little frustrated. or am I just being silly

My partner and I aren't married. Our first child was a big surprise, we'd only been together 8 months or so. I love him, and really, marriage makes no difference to that. But like you, it is the last name thing that bothers me. I thought I was being silly, but it really bothers me! I hate writing out forms, and seeing Rhiannon Johnson and then Landon Sternberg. It's like I am no part of him. I know that isn't true, but it is the best way I can explain it. I am having another baby this year, and so again, my last name will still be different.

I guess if he hasn't asked by the time my children are due to start school, I will just have to ask him!
