Ready to give up on crawling :-(

Feeling ready to give up on teaching daughter to crawl :-( she's almost 10 months and still has NO interest! I give her tummy time and she just ends up scooting backwards and getting stuck under the piano bench screaming! She loves to stand though - thinking maybe we should just focus on that and she can go straight to walking... that maybe she doesn't need to crawl... But I have heard that crawling is an important developmental stage both emotionally and physically (for developing fine motor skills for example, you need that pressure on the hands?) Anyone know anything about this? Anyone have any tips on how we can get her to start crawling without pushing her too hard - it's gotten to the point that every time I put her on her tummy, she cries cause she knows what I expect of her, I guess. She used to love tummy time until I tried to get her to move! I don't want this to be a negative thing!

Don't stress and try not to push her. If she wants to crawl, she will in her own time. Crawling is important, but if she will just go to walking, then that is what she will do.

I thought that the information on this site might be helpful.

If you are really worried, speak with your sweet girl's pediatrician.

Good luck mama!

My daughter skipped the crawling stage. She was what they call a "cruiser" she would grab on to furniture and walk around. I thought the same thing if i put her in the middle of the room she will have to crawl. My daughter out smarted me she started standing on her own in the middle of the room at 7 months. Her doctor said some kids never crawl and that's fine. She just did things backwards she learned how to walk before she could crawl.

Some babies never crawl, and that's ok. My son is 9.5 months old and literally just started crawling this past Saturday. Before that he would just roll everywhere. My son also loves to stand, so we focused on that. I thought he was never going to crawl. I had tried moving his legs so he would get the idea but he just flopped onto his belly and rolled away, lol! Then he would push up on his hands and knees and start rocking and one day he just started crawling. Your daughter will crawl when she's ready.
