My son is 2 months old and he's only sleeping 2 hours at a time then getting up to eat. He's a really big boy (he's running about 90% on the growth chart, wearing about 6-9 month clothing) and i'm sure he's just not getting full. My mom thinks I should start putting rice cereal in his bottles at night but his dr says he should wait 2 more months. Should I just do it or wait 2 more months?

They used to give babys baby rice at three weeks my doctor said. I have a big boy too who was always hungry and he wasnt really sleeping at night. I waited till 3 months and asked my doctor she said just give it to him. Ever since he has been eating baby rice and now he is on proper solids too and loves it. he is 4 and a half months old now and much happier and sleeps better too.

My boys were all 4 months before i gave them the rice cereal... Have you tried him on a formula called Sweet Dreams, in all chemists? used for the 8-9pm bottle, its suposed to fill 'em up more to keep them asleep more soundly and longer, it was recommended to me by my paediatrician for my 3rd child as he just didnt want to sleep day or night...it was hell! but it worked...as soon as he was 4 months then i tried him on the rice cereal and it work better for him as a solids meal for breakfast time with a soft spoon, followed by the remainder of the bottle that made the cereal afterwards.. try him also on biscuits like arrowroot that smush as they get gnawed on by your bubs gums, as well as spoon feeding him pureed bananas.. as bananas are low GI and filling for bubs. good luck ox

I started putting a little rice cereal in my daughter's bedtime bottle around 2 months and have been doing it ever since and she's 9 months old. It's the easiest for babies to digest and has the least chance of causing allergies. It filled her up and she's had no problems sleeping.

My Aunt had a 10 pound baby and said to me that she had had him doing cereal or solids or something at a week old because he was just so hungry!
I've heard that putting rice cereal in a bottle isn't good, anyways. But maybe if you give it to them that young, you have too....
I'd say go ahead and do it before bed time. I don't think it will hurt him if it's a small amount. You could also give him formula instead of breastmilk (assuming you're breastfeeding). The A.R. Lipil (I think it's called) for Spit-Up is thickened with rice, so that might keep him fuller longer.
Good luck!

well its up to you really int he end, just be careful, i have heard that with formula and rice cereal they get to much iron so u would havr to by the lower iron formula. my son is just 4 months and i put him on it about 2 weeks ago and 5 days back now he started having dark gray/black poo. . .which i now is not good i took him to the clinic and he stated that it could be cuz his digestive system isn't ready or may have an allergy, then i heard from other moms it also happened to their baby but it was cuz of the too much iron. . so just be care. It is now day 5 of this dark gray/black poo and 3 days no rice cereal . . .he has been fussy since it has started. . .and im getting worried. . so if it doesn't change by tuesday back to the drs we go. One thing i think should be done if u do decide to give it to him is that you feed him it with a spoon that way he gets to know that hes eating. . of course at first hes not going to quit know what to do so he may spit more out then he gets but at least that way he'll get the idea of eating. . . . . good luck♥

You are normally supposed to wait but every baby is different. My son is a greedy eater and he was always hungry...so at 2 months we started him on rice. It helps them sleep. There is a formula that is made for night time feedings. Its made by Enfamil. It works! But ask your dr 1st.

I have the same question. My baby girl is a lot smaller than your big boy :) but I was thinking on putting a teaspoon in my breastmilk right before bed so she sleeps longer. My doctor says four months but I am going to try when she is 3 1/2, when I ask other mothers some started before and some after they say it just depends on the baby and what they can handle. And they always say our parents didn't have all those rules and just went with the flow. So if you want to try it just try a very little bit and see how he responds, and skip a day inbetween to give him ample time to respond and go from there. I am going to wait a little longer (not four months thou) but I do know plently of people who have tried it before. Good Luck

well, since he is a big boy, and normally you are supposed to wait until they are 6 months old to give them an sort of solid foods, i think you should wait.. and instead of putting it in the bottle, you should feed him it with a spoon, but giving him rice cereal will probably make him a little chubbier. good luck! i hope i helped :)

I'd personally wait the 2 months, their digestive systems arent ready for it yet. If you are bottle feeding can you give him more of a night before bed?
