is a little rice cereal bad for a 4 and a half month old if 8-10 ounces of formula is not filling her up?

no..i had to start putting cereal in my daughters formula at 3 months because she had bad reflux and it made the formula heavier so it would stay down...it worked and she stayed fuller longer too!...always ask ur doctor but my advice is to give it a try...she's now 6 months and eats most starter baby foods and rice cereal

why not just give your baby more formula? the formula will have all the nutrition your baby needs at 4 1/2mths...

I just started giving my daughter rice cereal and she is five months. I figure, if she is more content afterwards, and she isn't crying from a tummy ache or if she doesn' t end up constipated or any allergies to it, then she is ready. Start slow and giving only a little bit at a time. I give her two teaspoons mixed with breast milk and she loves it!

i gave my daughter rice cereal at 4 months...she hated it..lol but the ped said at 4 months if u have a healthy baby it was alright to give...i gave her oatmeal at 6 months and she loved it..she's been an oatmeal addict ever since ;)

I too gave my son some rice cereal mixed with a little formula in a bowl at 4 mos old. He loved it. My dr said to just make sure NOT to put rice cereal in the bottle itself and bottle feed them because it is a choking hazard but, check with your dr!! and rice is usually preferred over oatmeal (that comes later!) Good luck!

my pediatrician started my son on rice cereal at 4 months. he loved it and took to the spoon immediately. he ate alot like your daughter... 8-10 oz was just not enough to fill his belly. i gave him about 2 teaspoons of rice cereal and then his bottle afterwards. he was pacified afterwards.

you may want to talk to your pediatrician and see what they say about it. some will start at 4, others will wait until 6 months.
