Hi, I'm 17weeks pregnant today, due round the 20th of September, I'm having right side pains sort of where my appendix should be (had it out ages ago) is this possibly growing pains? Its my 1st baby and I don't want to over react, its mainly when I stand up and its just a small short sharp pain, sort of like a stitch but it does not last long. Anyone else had this problem?

I am a L&D nurse. we get this complaint alot. If you are not bleeding or cramping, then it is just round ligament pain. If it concerns you and you will be able to rest better, call your OB.

I had ligament pains early in my pregnancy they eventually went away with no problems. Later in my pregnancy I had pain that just got worse and worse until I couldn't even move. To me it felt like a ruptured cyst but it was on my left side and I had that ovary removed. It ended up that the baby was laying sideways and right on my scar tissue. If the pain isn't that bad I would think it is the ligament pain, but you can always be safe and get checked out your baby is worth it.

its probably the long ligaments that support the weight of your growing baby.i had abdominal pain throughout my pregnancy on both sides. my doctor told me unless very severe and your bleeding, not to worry too much. just rest

i agree with Ashie. I had the same pains... but its always better to be safe than sorry. Ask your doctor. My daughter is 4 wks old, she is my first child and although you may think the questions are "dumb" or you dont want to "overreact," its nothing your doctor has never heard before, he is not going to laugh at you. i promise. I asked my dr pretty much every question possible.

Hello Jeanette congratulations.. i had the very same on both my girls. My youngest is 15 mths old and it was growing pains. Its all stretching etc so i think you have nothing to worry about.I also got it when i was walking or just after. To put your mind at ease always mention concerns like these to your doctor.Best of luck with your pregnancy:-)
