How much do you usually spend on school clothes? How many outfits and shoes do you buy to start the school year off wth?? This is my 1st year buying it and was curious to see what other moms did as well.

When it's back to school, my eleven year old daughter's mind is all about shopping for back to school clothes. With her, my seven year old son, and four year old daughter I usually spend about... $100-$300 each. I know it's a lot. I never buy complete outfits for my kids, I usually buy tops and bottoms for my kids and let them work with what they already have. My eldest daughter is going into her teens and is becoming very brand conscious, and I respect her for that because I was the same too when I was younger. Instead of shopping at expensive designer brands, we go to stores like abercrombie, Aeropostale, Hollister, etc. where we can find trendy clothes for respectable prices.

I have a daughter is school and her first year (JK) I went over board. I would say but 3 or four outfits and try to do the mix and match thing. I found that if I bought few pairs of pants and shirts that you could interchange it saved money. Also see how tough your child is on clothes. I bought my daughter two pairs of shoes to start as her teacher wanted an indoor and outdoor pair of shoes.I went to places like Bonnie Togs and even Zellers has so good clothes and really resonable prices..In the end I would say go by what you feel appropraite.

well i normally try to buy at least 3 to 5 outfits. depend on how fast they haven been growing. like last year about 7 outfits cause he was growing like crazy. and this is his slowed and still has some from last year in good shape so i got 4 new ones. 1 pair of shoes. and every year i also buy new underwear and sock or just when every they need new ones. that what i do for my kids.

I don't go too crazy. 2-3 pants and some short sleeve shirts, socks, underwear and a pair of shoes. Maybe a new sweatshirt or two. I live in Montana so no point in shorts or skirts cuz summer clothes still fit.

I also am kind of questioning this topic as my daughter is 4 1/2 yrs old and starting school this year. I was going to buy her like 5 shorts or skirts along with maybe 7 tanks tops (for the rest of the warm weather... I live in WI so it could change quick or it could be warm for a while yet). I'm holding off on the jeans and long sleeves until it begins to get chilly as my daughter is very big and grows QUICK! She is 60lbs.. tall and skinny.

My son is only three so we aren't doing full out school shopping for him yet, although he will be starting a new pre-school so I will probably buy him an outfit or two. His birthday is the weekend before school starts here, so that helps out a lot too... all the grandmas like to buy him clothes.
