I'm 39 weeks and I was just wondering if anyone has any ideas about self inducing... besides having sex?

I found "Blue Cohosh" ypu put 3-5 drops in hot water 3 times a day for like 2 days. At least thats how long it took me. It thins your cervix and makes you have contracting that put you into labor. It's all natural, you find it at your health food store. You drink it like its tea, and it WORKS!!! Plus it's 100% safe for you and your little one. :) Hope this helps

Walking a lot is the best thing, gravity will work in your favor. Pineapple will only work if you eat 6 whole fresh pineapples in one sitting! My mom kept telling me castor oil worked, but I just let the doctor induce me, as the castor oil is more likely to cause baby to pass meconium.

I went into labor with my second son almost immediately after I picked up my first. He was 18 months old and was about 29 pounds. I used all my back and stomach muscles to do it. Not on purpose but it worked. My second son was born at 31 weeks. not a good thing and I haven't picked up one of my kids after 28 weeks since. don't won't another occasion like the first.

Raspberry leaf tea, ankle massage, castor oil, nipple stimulation, getting onto your hands and knees and relaxing your stomach muscles...I did the hands and knees thing a couple times, tried the nipple thing but it was weird lol. But the night before my son was born I drank the tea(had like 3 coffee cups), had my husband rub my ankles and had sex....so maybe it works?

[deleted account]

Nope. I tried everything, having sex, swimming, walking alot, scrubbing the floors on my hands and knees. My brother even had a seizure (he has epilepsy) in the pool and nearly died and even that didn't put me in labour. Relly, your baby will come when they are good and ready

[deleted account]

actually theres no proven way that any of that works. its basically when your ready you will have the baby. inducing really isn't always the best idea as castor oil will make you sick and everything else hasnt been linked to making the baby come sooner. my dr told me stay away from castor oil its not a good idea and he said the only thing proven to work is walking. the hospital staff told me the same. just walk. lots of walking.

Hey my midwife told me to use evening primrose oil pills. You can either take it orally or if you really wanna get the show on the road you can put the pill up your hoo-hoo. It apparently softens up the cervix and prepares it for dialation.

I drank the castor oil and went into labor the next day. The stuff is so nasty and I gagged the whole time, but it worked for me. No womens body is the same, so it may not work for everyone. It made me throw up alot, then have diarrea....I would never do it again! The bottle is still at my in laws house and everytime I see it, I gag. Like others say, enjoy the time you have now. Good Luck!

I just passed my due date and have tried everything in the book. I've been bouncing on a yoga ball, drinking red leaf raspberry tea, eating pineapple for the past week. I've massaged pressure points in my hands and feet, eaten spicy food everyday, taken rides with my roommate who is a crazy driver, visualization...nothing has worked so far. Guess my baby girl just isn't ready for her big debut! When our babies are ready...they'll let us know!

i drank caster oil 2 days before my due date, however, i just peed alot...i mean alot, i didnt have diareah or anything, so im sure it was out of my system by the time i actually went in to labor, which was one day before my due date...i dont recommend it, because i think knowing you went in to labor naturally is better than wondering if you did. I always question myself if I went in to labor naturally, and its bums me knowing that i tried to play god and ruined the fun.

Ohh.. and once I was in labor, my contractions stopped. So my doc made me use nipple stimulation to get the contractions going again.. PAINFUL!

I started using Evening Primrose Oil around 34 weeks to soften my cervix (which didnt work, btw. At 39 weeks I was only fingertip dilated). At 36 weeks I drank about 3-6 glasses of Red Raspberry Leaf tea.. that only made my BH worse, and hurt my tummy. I walked, did yoga (well.. the best I could) squats, bumpy car rides.. anything I could think of. Finally at 39 weeks and 4 days I took 2 tbsps of castor oil mixed with OJ. My contractions picked up and that night my water broke and I delivered the next morning. Castor oil was gross but worked for me.. my only advice would be to drink it as fast as possible, then immediately rinse with mouth wash. Hang in there, it'll be over soon.

I also did EVERY single thing I heard (except castor oil) for 4 WEEKS and mine was still over 2 weeks "late"! Often it would cause a few weak contractions, but that was it. So I guess he (and my body) knew the right time. From what I've heard, there isn't anything that helps unless it is their time to come, anyway! I guess that's best, since you want them to be fully "cooked" and ready for the world.

I have heard that only semen contains the actual chemicals needed to ripen the cervix, but you need it a couple times a day to have an effect! Also, they say nipple stimulation can get your oxytocin (labor chemical) flowing, but requires like 3-5 HOURS of intense stimulation to have an effect! I have also heard from several moms that castor oil sucks, mostly just makes you have diarrhea, and increases the risk of making your baby poop in his/her amniotic fluid (meconium) which can cause infection and breathing problems, so probably best to skip it.

So at over 2 weeks "overdue" I had acupuncture one day, and the next day I had really spicy Thai food and pineapple and an hour later my water finally broke. I hated the acupuncture (labor induction points were really painful), and not convinced it's a good idea, but was willing to try anything short of castor oil or chemical induction! After my water broke, it still took over a day for active labor to start, so it probably would have, anyway! After that my labor was a smooth 12 hours, plus 1.5 hours pushing, with no meds, and my guy was born healthy and strong 9 lbs. 7 oz. I had him at home with a midwife, and my OB (who was on maternity leave, lol) would have encouraged chemical induction, which increases risk of c-section (especially with a big baby), so it was 100% worth the wait!!!

I wanted to avoid chemical induction (pitocin, etc) b/c it increases your pain level, risks of c-section and uterine rupture, among other things. My mom had a really awful labor 12 years ago caused directly by pitocin overdose. Professional recommendations are to only use it for medical necessity. If your care provider suggests it, make sure to ask about the risks and discuss "expectant care" as an alternative! Remember the decision is up to YOU, and they are they should be there to help and support you make the safest decisions possible.

I know the last few weeks are the VERY hardest, but it IS worth the wait to be sure they are ready - you will NOT be pregnant forever :) In retrospect, babies are SO wonderful, bu MUCH more work once on the outside, so enjoy your last week(s) of freedom!!! Good luck and let us know how it goes!!!

there are some old wives tales such as hot curries, eating pineapple, going over speedbumps in a car, and tweaking nipples, but none have been proven.

I say just sitback, enjoy the last days/weeks of freedom and lil 1 will show when he/she is ready x Good Luck xx
