I have a teething 6 month old and he has been drooling constantly for ahwile now, plus the bumps on his gums are getting closer to the top. Today he started to get a runny nose. He is not running a fever, not really coughing a lot either. Is the runny nose common during the teething process?

All the books say it isn't, and even when I talked to a nurse about my son's runny nose, she said it wasn't technically a sign, but all her kids did it. It was always about the time you could feel the teeth start to break through the gums for my son, his nose would always run like crazy.

Our Dr. said that a low grade fever is a sign. Although the books will say no. She said it is very normal for them to run a low fever. As for the runny nose I'm not sure. Rylan didn't, but then again all kids are different. I really didn't know he was teething until he opened his mouth one day and there was a tooth :) I was told the longer they have them in the their gums the better!!
