Sippy cups help please..

Jaclyn - posted on 02/12/2010 ( 7 moms have responded )

I have a 2 and 1 year old they are both off bottles but they are on soft sippy cups they are chewing on the nipple and putting holes in them so when they go to drink out of them they spill whatever they have in their cups all over them selves. And they are getting kind of expensive because I have to keep buying them more. I've tried to introduce them to the hard sippy cups but they are having a hard time with them. I can't figure out how to make them understand how to drink out of them. If any one has got any advice for me please HELP!..
Thank you.

I think this is something they will have to get used to over time. I would say just give them hard sippy cups and they will get used to it.

you can also try plastic cups with straws. my bosses daughter hates sippy cups, so she got plastic cups with lids and straws. found at any grocery store.

I have a friend who's son was having trouble with sippy cups and I read somewhere that a lot babies/toddlers who have issues using a sippy do really well with the Rubbermaid reusable juice boxes. I suggested them to my friend. She tried them out and they were a big hit with her son.

I don't know what kind you are using but I used the Gerber sippy cups. They have a softer spouts for younger babies and then the graduate to harder spouts as they get older.
Here are some links:

The one above was his first sippy cup. I don't think you can chew through this one. It's nice and soft though. I got them at Walmart.

I also used the straw ones in the beginning. Just a thought. Hope that helps!

When I gave my son the hard sippy cups, he got so frustrated that he asked me to remove the lid. Then I learned that I should've given him the ordinary cups instead, they're cheaper, hehe. Every child is different, yours will learn when they're ready.
