Sitting up and crawling

Is there a certain age that a baby should be able to sit and crawl? My little girl is 6 1/2 mo. and is not really interested in either. She always wants to stand.

Every baby is definatly diffrent! my daughter could basicly sit @ 5 months, and very well by 6 months then at 7 months she discovered that she could throw herself back so... after 2 months of being able to sit her down and wonder around her i suddenly couldnt do that anymore! she stopped doing this after a few weeks (& a few nasty bumps!) thankfully. she is 9 months now and shows absolutly NO intrest in crawling what so ever.. but she does love to stand wile holding onto you. what put my mind at ease a little was i read in "what to expect the first 12 months" that crawling isnt actully considered a developmental milestone! as so many babys do it at completly diffrent ages and some never at all... i found that quite interesting.

The average age for crawling is 8-9 months and it can go even further than that. Walking can take up to 18 months for some babies but that doesn't mean anything is wrong if it takes that long. Every child develops at their own pace, also good person to talk to would be her pediatrician.

Good Luck!

Some babies skip the sitting and crawling stage and go straight to walking.. your daughter could just be that exception :) my son didnt sit up alone until he was like 8 months old!! Give her time!

Thanks to all who responded! It's nice to hear from a moms point of view and not a doctor or book! Both are great, but don't compare to real experience!

no at all they all do it at different times. ours did not sit up til 11.5 months or crawl til 14.5 months and she is completely healthy despite them trying to convince us she had a developmental disorder. they even did an MRI which was clear. babies who are smaller tend to meet milestones slowly. dont worry about it

My boy is the same, not interested in crawling whatsoever. He can sit up wonderfully now; he's coming up on eight months. He also loves the stand! Not pulling himself up on anything yet, thankfully! He's very near to crawling, he can almost get up on his knees and scoots backwards slightly. They all get there eventually.
